21  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: KnitMap (finding an LYS) on: September 30, 2007 01:11:40 PM
I just wanted you to know that I have been editing the info on all our LYS, adding cmments, etc & I actually was one of the winners from raffle #3.  I am getting an awesome 100% superwash merino fingering weight yarn.  I can't wait.

Downside, I agree......there is a bunch of junk & outdated info on there.  I have been weeding through the stuff from the local stores though & trying to update it.

Yay, congrats!  I admit that I'm glad the site exists, totally.  But sometimes I wonder where some of these people got their stores from?  5-year-old yellow pages?  Weird.

23  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Discussion and Questions / Re: The perfect blend of geek and craft on: September 25, 2007 10:20:30 PM
Oh, goodness, there's a whole science and mathematics of textiles these days.  Textile archaeologists use these analysis techniques to extrapolate all sorts of stuff from scraps of fabric and yarn.  It just gives me a headache Wink

It is indeed the luscious Captain Jack Harkness. I uploaded it for the recent Dr. Who swap, I'll probably start looking for a Discworld icon soon  Smiley

Luscious, indeed.  Maybe we need a Torchwood Swap, to complete the set, eh?

Details of swap:
Like before, participants will be matched up based on their preferences (fiber to spin/ receive, skill level, and any other additional requests).  There is no maximum or minimum amount of yarn to send (size of skein, # of skeins), but it will be agreed upon by partners beforehand.  Yarn must be spun by the participant, after reading partner's questionnaire.  ALL SKEINS MUST BE READY FOR USE WHEN SENT!  Please set the twist, label the fiber content and amount, etc.

Also, as an theme for this swap, participants will be expected to spin enough yarn for a small to medium-sized project for their partner (a cap, mittens, gloves, etc).  Much like the Magic Yarn Ball Swap, partners will send each other a list of projects they would like to make. Their partner will review the list and spin the yarn for a project AND include the pattern/ directions to make it with the yarn.  If you and your partner decide to spin enough yarn for each other to make sweaters, I wish you luck Grin

Please maintain contact with your partner throughout the swap! Participants are required to mention whether or not they have access to a digital camera, as posting in the gallery is important for feedback and partner appreciation Wink
