An easy way to make the Ruby Slippers is to get a cheap pair of shoes, cover them with glue and dip them into a box with red glitter.  Make the glitter cover everything and away you go.  There's no place like home.  There's no place like home.  There's no place like home.

A basket with a stuffed dog for Toto.

Hair in pigtail braids.

Check out thrift stores for a blue dress - or if you can't find one you can be Punk Rock Dorothy or Stock Broker Dorothy or some other variation on the theme.  Just keep the basics like shoes, dog and hair and you could be any kind of Dorothy you want to be.

Good luck!  Let us know what you decide to do.

I sounds like you already decided, but I thought I'd just chime in with my experience anyway...

I was about 8 months prego and went as a retro bumblebee.  I made a mod type dress that was black with yellow stripes, made black wings, wore fishnet stockings and 60's mod jewelry and make up.  But the kicker was that my mom was in town visiting and was able to do my hair up in a bee-hive.  It was really fun.  I actually won the costume contest at work and got a great prize!
