1  pic frame *does this go here?* in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by sookie74 on: January 05, 2009 09:03:30 PM
Not sure if this is the right forum..but I'm not sure where this belonged.

About two years ago, I came across a post (either here or on craftgrrl) that had a cool idea for a pic frame. I told my boyfriend about it and he said he'd make me one since he's a contractor and already has the tools.

***UPDATE*** I FOUND THE ORIGINAL POST. I decide to google and remembered this looking familiar. It's from some other blog that must collect from a bunch of other blogs? I dunno. But here's the link (http://www.curbly.com/alttext/posts/74-Easy-Photo-Wall-on-a-Shoe-s-string-s-wire-Budget) to the post that gave me this idea. It was a photo wall...I just decided to make a frame. I had originally bought clips with hooks but decided they would do too much damage to the photos (cuz they had sharp teeth).

He's busy...and forgetful. And two years later, he finally made me this frame! Today, we put the finishing touches on it and I finally got to hang it on my wall! I'm so excited cuz I've been patiently waiting for it and it's finally here. I know you've seen these before, but here's my boyfriend and my version of the frame. I got the cute little clothespins at Michaels crafts. My boyfriend used dye and stain on the wood. He used maple from Orcas Island for the main part of the frame and did an inlay of douglas fir. After he dyed/stained, he worked it over a few times with tongue oil. It's got a rough finish look, but is smooth to the touch and not glossy at all!

Enjoy the pics! There's a ton!!! Smiley

The wood looks better than in these pics Sad

How it looks compared to my wall size.

The wires are attached to an eyelet screw

LOVE these clothespins!

I didn't leave enough space at the top for the clothespin...but I didn't want the pics to hang over the frame at the bottom. And I wanted to be able to have both portrait and landscape shots

Also...something I finished a couple years ago but never posted....a french memo board wall!!  I did try putting pics in there as planned..but it looked way too cluttered. I like it plain. baby blue with brown ribbon/thumbtacks

4  shadow box for mom in Mother's Day by sookie74 on: May 08, 2008 12:33:56 PM
I made a simple/cutesy mother's day gift for my mom. She moved up here to Seattle last year after living the past 20+ years in Hawaii. She's still having trouble adjusting to the change in temp! So I made her a little shadow box beach scene for when she needs to get away to a warm place Smiley

I used a premade shadow box I bought from Ikea a while ago, some precut foam stickers, sand from the flower dept, and acrylic paint. I also made the chair out of toothpicks and fabric. It turned out all wonky but not bad for my first attempt. I totally forgot to make an umbrella and add shells. But by the time I remembered it was past midnight and I'd already sealed up the back so the sand couldn't escape. Oh well!

Pics without flash show the real color. I painted palm trees on the inside, water and a big sun Smiley
Lots o' pics ahead!

6  Archie Comic shoes in Shoes: Completed Projects by sookie74 on: February 15, 2008 08:04:34 PM
I was just reminded about these today when my co-worker wore them. I gave them to her a couple years ago cuz after I made them, I realized they were too small on me Sad

Just used mod podge and poly spray to coat. The shoes were originally white, cheap flats from the thrift store.  I originally posted these pics on craftgrrl when I made them back in '06 but forgot to post it over here Smiley

Better late than never!!

It's just one pair shown at all the different angles Smiley

Also, the soles of the shoes aren't wonky at all...that's just my horrible photoshopping skills!

7  Yet another "52" reasons book (pics added IMG OBESE) in Valentine's Day by sookie74 on: February 14, 2008 09:23:17 AM
x-posted from craftgrrl

For this Valetine's day, I decided to make one of those "52 things i love about you" books. Only, my boyperson and I have been dating about a year and a half and we dont say that "L" word. It's just not in our vocab. But I simply adore him and I thought he should know. I made him a 52 things I LIKE about you book instead Smiley

Decided to use the glue stick onto playing cards instead of using cardstock. It makes some of the pages look really "busy" but I like it better. I also binded it with ribbon, but I'm not sure how sturdy that is. I may change it before I give it to him tomorrow.

There are obviously a ton of pics so I'm only posting my faves.

Hope you like! And thanks for the inspiration!

he absolutely HATES 80s music and I love the simplicity of it. He's a musician so he's uber-critical of cheesey synth-pop! Smiley

one thing that's important to me in a relationship is that you don't get TOO comfortable with the person. I lived with my ex- for 6 1/2 years and ended up being more like a roommate. He farted, did the dutch oven, took a dump while i brushed my teeth, peed on me in the shower.... all kinds of nasty stuff. So when the new boy and I got together we agreed not to let it get like that. The attraction has only grown, so I think it works. It's cute though cuz he runs outside when he has to fart! Our joke is that we don't want to "change the realtionship". So when he has to fart or take a dump, he says "be right back, gotta change the relationship!" hehe

he's actually got gorgeous blue eyes Wink

my favorite one!  before i met him, he was clean shaven and kept his hair super short cuz he thought that's what girls liked. I prefer scruffy and shaggy and he loves the fact that he doesn't have to try to look good anymore Smiley

he's Spanish (both parents are from Spain) but he was born and did most of his schooling in England so he's got the British accent. It's weird to say he's Spanish when he sounds British :p

Everyone who meets him likens him to Hugh Grant. Not only because of the accent, but also the blue eyes/brown hair and the way he fumbles when he speaks. He's all bumbling fool and it's endearing. The joke at the bottom is cuz when I rib him for thinking some chick is hot he'll say "oh she's UGLY!" ya right!

here's a pic of us Smiley

Also, I want to give major props to all the folks before me, here and on craftgrrl, who have made books like this and posted their stuff!  I love seeing everybody's versions of these books! Smiley Y'all inspire me and that is why I love both of these craft communities Smiley

Happy Valentine's Day!

(edit)  I was going to add the rest of the pics but there are just SOOO many!!  So here's a link to my photobucket instead. You can see the rest there to get an idea of the other things that were in the book. Smiley  http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v298/sookie74/fun%20pics/

8  Chat-speak scarf in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by sookie74 on: January 03, 2008 08:15:58 PM
This scarf I made for my 14yr old niece. It's all speech bubbles with chat lingo. I made it with arctic fleece and sewed two colors together so it's reversable. One side is a gorgeous green and brown stripe the other is solid brown. I also reversed the fringe so the opposite colors are on either side. I was VERY happy with the final product. It's probably the biggest project I've done since it was all hand sewn and I never sew!!! Funny that two days after I finished it, my mom gave me a sewing machine for Xmas! :p

I had to translate a few for my sis, so here's what it says:
OIC (oh i see!)
ORLY? (oh really?)
BRB (be right back)
LOL (laughing out loud)
GR8 (great!)
MYOB (mind your own business)
ROFL (rolling on floor laughing)
IDK (I don't know)
BFF (best friends forever)
W/E (whatever)
OMG (oh my god!)

9  I'm an idiot! Need your help re: chemicals in Stenciling: Discussion and Questions by sookie74 on: December 21, 2007 08:11:50 PM
So I tried doing some bleach stencils on tshirts tonight. I got the brilliant idea to use a film strip as a stencil....DUMMMB!   Once I sprayed the bleach on, the chemicals from the film started running onto the fabric. I just threw it into the wash and is now drying, but I know it smells like more than just bleach. Did I ruin it completely? Do you think it's still wearable? Or should I just toss it out? Sad

here's a pic of it. See where it's blotchy and lighter? That's where the chemicals started to pool.

any idea of it's still wearable and ok to wash with other clothes??
