301  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / altered book in niched frame on: July 08, 2006 11:36:22 AM
I made this altered book Home of my Soul for my best friend.  I wanted to give it a home too, so I constructed a cardboard niched frame for it; then covered it with heavy watercolour paper and painted it with acrylics.  The book is held in by a chain with a bar clasp and is easily removed.  Its like 2 gifts in one-a piece of art for her wall and a personal altered book just for her (luv you dondi!!)

I only have a couple of very lousy pics of the inside of the book-its a reflection on the past few years which have been a trial for us (my mom died of breast cancer shortly after I was diagnosed with leukemia, Dondi left her job and stayed with my kids so I could go away for a stem cell transplant, then a year later her husband died in a car accident. . . man oh man)

jump into the mystery (of life) page- collage, stamped, glazed painted page, with sequins

this page is hard to see, the left is layered with lots of thin papers, stamped and aged with the creation of man picture in the middle ; the right has a little niche with a mirror, glazed and stamped page with gel medium transfers of an Arabic newspaper, sequins and a poem I wrote for Dondi
long the journey
grief has seared my heart
joy lifts me
time passes through me
in my own temple
the home of my soul
302  CRAFTING FOR GOOD AND NOT EVIL / Crafty Charitable/Social Causes / Ideas for a group to craft on: January 06, 2006 11:22:31 AM
I have been elected to lead a meeting of my cancer support group in March with some kind of art/craft project.  This group has survivors (like me 2 years yaaaaa!!) family members and people going thru treatment.  The last time I did this I demonstrated collage techniques - to make a "cancer journey" collage.  Ran into the "I'm not artistic" thing,(and really noticed that most people like LOTS of rules and guidelines to follow)so this time I would like to do some kind of project that we all can contribute to and maybe donate to the hospital Huh  I'm thinking of maybe knitting/crocheting squares and putting it all together as a blanket for the palliative care room (though I don't know if they could take one-laundry rules)  Anyway I really need some ideas for things that can be done in a couple of hours, don't require alot of "skill" or material and  are altruistic in nature.   It doesn't necessarily have to be about cancer (trust me, cancer, cancer, cancer all the time can really get annoying!)  Thanks for any help you can give me!!
303  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Party Planning / "rebirthday" party ideas on: October 18, 2005 10:07:42 AM
Well woo hoo its my first time posting on craftster, let me just say the creativity around here is sooo great.  I need some help for a party I want to throw to celebrate my second anniversary of my bone marrow transplant (very successfull for leukemia) in November.   Kind of going with a second chance, rebirth and happy as hell to be alive theme.

Food is going to be everything I craved when I couldn't eat and of course celebratory cocktails (name ideas?)    Also must have decorations and goodie bags, all ready have some lovely blood donor red wristbands, candy that looks like pills and the most swell stress relievers shaped like platelets.

Thank you soo much for any ideas you can give me-becoming half man has put added stress on my inner Martha and she needs help!
