21  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: Fill-A-Box Happy New Year GALLERY on: January 25, 2011 08:06:24 PM
I love seeing what everybody got so much!  I finally got a chance to get my photos uploaded (hubby took laptop and internet out of town for work) plus a vacation for me was thrown int ehre for good measure but here is what I received from mom2em!

and a close up of some of the fabric

I'm already making big plans for the fabric I'm thinking I need a new patchwork apron form all the fod fabric (I've got some little fod patterns in my scraps too that will go very nicely)

Also it's hard to see in the photos, but the green blob looking things are actually these very cool felt ornaments that I'm planning to use as embellishment on a skirt for myself (they're snowflakes) and I've got some cute brown wool I've been dying to turn into a pencil skirt just waiting for the perfect accesory.
I'll be sending out my box to atsuko on thursday and I'm super excited.  This was a great first swap and I can;t wait to try more now that I've gotten the hang of it!

... now to hide all of my new stash before hubby gets home from his business trip and notices more stuff in the house  Grin
22  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Discussion and Questions / first Amigurumi attempt- cactus on: January 20, 2011 11:24:43 AM
ok I am about to attempt my first Amigurumi.  I would like to make a little cactus for a friend for valentines day.  I always joke with him that he is my cactus because he's tall, thin, and very boney (his ribs poke me when i hug him too hard).  My question is what kind of yarn do I buy?  can I just use regular red heart or simply soft yarn?
I am going to at least try to follow this pattern http://www.gleefulthings.com/blog/?p=471 as much as I can (I'm not very good with patterns I usually just get the idea going and then wing the rest of it) It looks like she just used regular yarn but I wanted to make sure, then I was planning on adding in some "spikes" with fun fur yarn weaved in.  I could use some advice before I get out of work so I can stop at joanns on the way home so I hope there are some workday lurkers like myself.

Super excited to be part of this swap!  It will be my first one and DH has been bugging me to clean out some of my craft corner.. I told him about it though and he realized that I would also be getting a bunch of stuff to replace the stuff I'm getting rid of  Grin
25  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Re: Paper Chain Scarf on: January 07, 2011 07:16:21 AM
I love it!  It looks like a great way to use up all my odds and ends scraps of acrylic yarn from other projects.
26  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / Re: 3 new dinosaur dresses, 2 new hats, and a bunch of custom dresses on: January 07, 2011 06:33:34 AM
Smiley I always look forward to seeing new posts from you. Your dresses are always so cute and the photos always make me want to have tons of little kids to dress up.    I think the dinosaurs are very cute it's hard to find girly clothes with that kind of motif , but I'm so glad your girls are rockin them!
27  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Re: epic failure on: January 05, 2011 11:25:26 AM
just a little update.... I was able to repair the epic failure and now you would have no way of knowing that it was so bad.  It was nerve wracking but It was easier than I anicipated and I had a crafting panic attack for almost no reason.  I will have pictures up in the completed section in the next day or two since I would like to mail it out tomorrow Smiley    Thanks to everyone who talked me down off my ledge
28  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / giant christmas squid on: January 03, 2011 04:37:43 PM
This year for christmas I made DH a giant squid (he loves squids and all things with tenticles) sorry for the crummy photo, but at least I got one up.  I'm excited since this is my first completed project I've posted I think.  I've been a lurker adn occasional poster for a couple years now.

That is my cat nuzz sitting in the picture with the giant squid which dh named Mr. None... cna't realy rememeber why.  I originally made this so DH could take it with him when he goes to key west for work for a month, but it ended up being too big so he asked me to make a mini Mr. None (he leaves in just over a week and this was my first ever attempt at a stuffed animal) he's got some flaws but he's a great 50/50 piece. Mr. None is just under 5 feet tall and despite all of his flaws very awesome   Grin  he only took about 5 hours to make, he's made from white fleece and the underside of his tenticles is a very cool fabric from Joann's.  It's green flannel that has a white bubble looking pattern that really looks like tenticles.  I'll be sure to post pictures of the mini as soon as I finish him.  Thanks for looking, c&c welcome
29  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Re: epic failure on: January 03, 2011 03:58:43 PM
here is a photo fron the back so you can see how it is all connected

it's kind of hard to see but insead of connecting it in rows i "played tetris" I have at least taken a little comfort in the fact that iy is an edge piece so at least it's nto in the center and i don't have to tear the whole thing apart... I think I've figured otu how to do it... it's just gonna take ma a while to pull it all apart and put it back together

I promise I'll post a finished photo of the whole thing looking nice as soon as i finally get it done
30  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / Re: Super Mario Play Set! (7pc) + Penguin Suit Mario!! on: January 03, 2011 12:18:26 PM
OMG these are awesome!!! My favorite is the penguin suit mario we just got a wii for xmas and my husband has been playing mario non stop plus i love anything penguin.  Hvaen't gotten a chance to check out your etsy site yet but if you've got the penguin suit mario I'm sold.  I wouldn't be able to mkae one from a pattern if my life depended on it.  I don't have those kinds of skills so I would rather support an awesome person who can make them by paying them for one.  Super kudos and I'll be checking out your site when I get home from work and it's not blocked  Sad
