21  Re: choosing an alpaca yarn for Branching Out in Knitting: Discussion and Questions by loisgriffinwannabe on: April 27, 2006 11:29:33 PM
I actually almost made branching out with two skeins of Drops Alpaca in a light blue (grey blue color) but I wasn't so into making it, so I frogged it. I got the idea because a few people made it for the Knitting Olympics in alpaca. so obviously, it works!

I don't see myself using this yarn for anything else, because I bought the yarn originally to make Branching Out for my sister, and the color is so not me.

Would you like me to roll it up nicely into skeins and I can mail it to you asap? We can do a swap, or you can pay me for it if you really want to, but I don't mind swapping, let me know if you have something you want to part with.

I would be sending you two full skeins. The yardage is 180m per skein, and its 23sts and 30 rows over 4 inches.

Here is a pic of the yarn:

let me know what you think!

Something funny to impart:

I was talking to a friend of mine who lives far away from me, and doesn't know I am doing this UWYH month challenge. Anyhow, she said she was watching Oprah and there was a woman on there that was in serious debt, and had a "craft addiction"- apparently, she was unable to stop buying yarn, even though she is over $100,000 + in debt! She said that she needed the pick me up that buying yarn gave her...  So my friend said she had to call me and make sure I wasn't having the same problem- so I told her about this and she was V. happy!

lol... how funny is that?

Also I wanted to say I finished the Clap and the Slippers, and now I am working on a shawl for my mother in law, for Mother's Day and her bday, which are a day apart. Here is my progress:

Thanks for doing this with me y'all- let's try not to be like the woman on Oprah!

24  Re: Mother's Day 2006 KAL in Knitalongs by loisgriffinwannabe on: April 17, 2006 01:34:31 PM
I decided to "make up" a shawl pattern, using a simple lace repeat, with Caron Simply Soft in Plum Wine and US 8 (5 mm) needles.

The lace pattern is:

Multiple of 8 stitches plus 1 (So I cast on 89 sts)
Row 1: K1 *YO, K2, SL 1, K2TOG, PSSO, K2, YO, K1 repeat from * across row.
Row 2: Purl.

Repeat Rows 1 and 2 for pattern stitch.

So I am just going to do that until its long enough!

I just posted this over in completed projects too- sorry for overlap-

The Sweet Mary Janes for my stepmother in law's  birthday

The pink yarn is leftover TLC Heathers in Lt. Mulberry that I had in my stash, and can act as a drawstring in case the slippers aren't tight enough- I made the small, because she is a size 6, but just to be sure.... I used two skeins of Daiso (2$ a skein) chunky grey wool from Japan, 4.5mm needles, and the Sweet Mary Janes pattern by Erin Vaughn

The yarn is all from my stash!

Hi y'all!

I made these for my stepmother in law for her birthday- she is awesome and just laid oak flooring in her house by herself  Shocked and I know her feet will get cold with those new wood floors, so I made her these! Enjoy!

I say dark brown, with a lighter brown trim.

I have some nice turquoise glass seed beads that may go with this:

I made mine a few months ago, but I thought I would share:

Used half a skein of Patons Classic Merino in Peacock, and US 8 needles. The color is more of a dark teal than the pic would have you believe Smiley
