11  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Re: altoids can speakers from readymade? anyone do it? on: September 17, 2004 04:28:35 PM
not quite along the same vein, but....
a friend of mine got an ipod, but doesn't want to use the "I'VE GOT AND IPOD EVERYBODY SEE" white headphones.  i said, heh, give them to me & i'll use 'em with my walkman & people will think i've got an ipod.  he then told me that people are taking walkmans just like my orange sports walkman, gutting them, & using them as ipod cases!

have any of you seen this?

12  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / Re: How do I do a fauxhawk? on: September 17, 2004 04:19:46 PM
i've used egg whites & elmer's glue (now more washable!)  egg whites shouldn't smell if you get all the yolk out.  i usually put my hair up with the whites when it's long & set it with the glue.

but i don't think pink is really sporting a faux-hawk, it's more of the eighties poof where you tied your hair in a pony tail, pulled a front chunk forward & sprayed some aqua net.  faux-hawks are when you have short boy-type hair & smush it into a mohawk with pomade. i like the men's crew pomade, it's watersoluble unlike beeswax or the petroleum jelly stuff.

13  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Re: Elaborate beaded ornament *pictures* on: September 13, 2004 09:50:24 AM
that's beautiful!  i have a friend who does something similar with crochet:  she drapes the crochet over those thread-wrapped syrofoam ornament balls & secures it with pearl pins.  crafted ornaments are always my favorite on our tree.

i've been using armour etch to make christmas presents for years!  after going through tons of little bottles i finally bought a huge one.  i love the stuff, it works really well.  i've never tried any other brands because that's all they carry at Michael's.  and that vitrea glass paint stuff, too, i love it!

18  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Re: transferring text onto wood... on: August 10, 2004 05:32:46 PM
what about transfer letter sheets?  the kind that rub off onto almost any surface.  they come in tiny text size, too.  if you can find somewhere that sells them by the sheet they're pretty cheap.

19  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Re: Keeping permanent marker from fading on clothes on: August 10, 2004 05:24:20 PM
permanent marker will fade eventually, but if you hand-wash & drip-dry your shirt in mild soap it'll last a lot longer.  definitely don't put it in the drier.  i think i remember my friends used to secretly redo the signature with a sharpie, but that's kind of lame...

20  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / Re: Approaching local shop owners on: July 26, 2004 07:57:07 PM
do you have a Savers nearby?  they're like Salvation Army, a little different.  the one near me has lots of suitcases...  they exist all over the country, but i think they have different names in some areas.  or go to the Salvey...  or some other junky shop of some kind.

that link is delicious!  so many neat things i don't need to buy...
