1  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: Love Always, Charlie Swap 2 Gallery! on: October 11, 2007 06:48:36 AM
Hello again Charlies! It's been a looooong time (1 year?) - I hope everyone is supergroovy cool.
I have a great Charlie update! A few weeks ago my dear Charlie (the lovely Parisgirl) sent me a surprise package!! It is a set of 8 coasters she made from Anne Taintor cocktail napkins!

Why did she send them? Because she is super sweet...
(I like this one the bestist!)

They are really cool - I believe that she made them from tiles covered with cocktail napkins then coated with gloss and embellished with tiny beads.
NIFTY & just in time for Christmas!

(If you go to my Flickr page you can look at the bigger sized pictures and see the really cool details better)

Anyway, I just had to update here because I think that it says a lot about the whole Charlie experience and how great it was for most of us.
I would love to see another Charlie round start! Would anyone else be up for that/ know anyone else that would be up for that? I don't know if I qualify for organizer status, but I would be up for it (I'll look into it if anyone chimes in about interest)

Big Wallflower hugs to all!

Real clothes?! Has your mother seen the thoughtless throw-together most young girls are wearing these days? Yikes!
This is not only funky and unique - it is very cool because it was made by you!  Very well I might add!
I have the opposite problem with my daughter; she will all to often only want to wear clothing within a certain realm of "storebought unique". Ick.
If your mother thinks it is too revealing you could just wear it with a nice white blouse underneath or a bolo jacket over the top and maybe leggings under the bottom if she thinks it's too revealing on the bottom?
Remember, anybody can wear something from the store and they do. Do you want to be anybody? Wink
Just my 2 cents - as a mom and such.

Hey all, Im new to MD by way of TX. I live in Frederick. PLEASEEE any crafters in the Frederick area drop me a line. I havent met any crafters here and im having withdraw!

Frederick is actually a pretty crafty little town. Much bigger place than it was 10 years ago - that's for sure.
If you are new there you might want to check out the Delaplaine center in downtown and also just kinda scoot around downtown to various galleries and shops to see local crafters and artists. The community college has a few classes/groups. If you are a Mom, there is the MOMS club (actually a couple of chapters now) and there are all sorts of crafting groups in there too. The Friday paper usually lists meetings and such as well.
I'm in Hagerstown, we don't have a lot of anything - primarily just knitting and rustic stuff. (Not my bag)
4  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Other Image Reproduction Techniques: Discussion and Questions / Re: copy right clipart? on: January 16, 2007 08:48:41 AM
Do you mean clipart that is copyright/ royalty free? Or maybe just artwork that is copyright free?
Dover books has some interesting stuff ...
and if you sign up for their free sampler they send you weekly emails for samples you can dowload and keep! Always nifty stuff there.

There is also alot of nifty image stuff at  the Wikipedia - Wikimedia pages.

Not alot, but hopefully some stuff you could use.

What sort of look are you going for? Stencils? Bands? Vintage clip art? There are millions of possibilities.  Shocked

Here's a link to my other post in here with some links...
I hope this helps!

I just wanted to chime in here and say that the advice given here regarding Epson Durabrite & the method used in the tutorial are perfect! I followed all of the directions to a T - except I used Avery paper (for dark). I made several shirts for my daughter - who is Ms>Picky about it not looking too DIY and they were up to her muster. I have washed and washed and washed these babies with total disregard for method (because I am a lazy laundry slave)and they are still all good.
There was one shirt that was a really heavily colored solid block of graphics that I was a little worried about when I pressed it - thinking it was _surely_ going to crack, but it has only recently started to show any signs of wear at all and that baby is like 7+ months old. The color is still just as bright and solid as the day it was made too. I think that if I had been more careful with my washing methods it would still be okay. Anyway - that's my 2 cents.

Yes, dear friend, I was afraid that you probablly had me figured out pretty early in the swap, but that's cool because it was still tons of fun for me and I hope that everyone else had fun too. It really is kind of a social experiment of sorts. Don't you think?
Now I just need to figure out who my Charlie was. I'd love a chance to write back. you know?

Any word on whether we will be getting proper feedback for this? I am not too concerned because I am not swapping here lately, but I am just enough of a perfectionist that it bothers me to have a half completed feedback on my record.

I'm in the Frederick/Hagerstown/Middletown area. Brunswick to be exact. But I work in washington county between Boonsboro and Hagerstown. haha When I saw the post describing the Hagerstown Joann's as "the armpit of hell" I hadn't thought of it that way before but I thought "yeah, that's about right." Frederick's Joann's is SOOOOO much better.

I am so glad to hear that it is not just my opinion. JoAnn in Frederick is a much better store, but it has it's own set of issues as well. When is somebody gonna get smart and give this region a proper fabrics & crafts joint?
Oh - I'm also glad to hear that I'm not alone out here.  Smiley
