1  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Discussion and Questions / decorating a fridge? on: April 11, 2005 12:15:20 PM
i was wondering - does anyone have any tips for decorating a fridge?

i haven't decided exactly what i want to do to it - the main candidates right now are painting it or collage work.

if i paint it, what sort of paint should i use?

if i collage, what sort of glue should i use? i am guessing that the mod podge i usually use for collages probably won't hold up in the event of fridge-sweat.

anybody got any advice?

2  California / California: South / craft supplies in LA? on: November 25, 2004 08:20:32 PM
hello! i recently relocated to the west coast and i was wondering where i could get some craft supplies.

i know there is a michaels in santa monica - but that seems a bit of a drive (esp cos i do not feel secure enough to go on the freeways yet!). i live in west hollywood - does anyone know of any good crafty stores around there??

3  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / purty flowerpots on: July 03, 2004 11:20:21 AM
i really like plants but i don't like the ugly clay and plastic pots. so i decided to make them prettier with paints and acrylic jewels:

4  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / decoupaged table on: July 03, 2004 11:13:53 AM
since i recently got a digital camera i have been super excited about posting some of my projects on here..

when i moved out into my own place a few years ago, one of the things i took with me from my parents' was this old table of my grandmas. its pretty plain and boring. so i decided to spruce it up by mod-podge-ing a bunch of cool pictures on it. it was accomplished by me and my roommate over the course of several months. we'd just work on it whenever we felt like it. (and in the meantime the table served as our dining table too! Smiley )

anyway, here it is:

5  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / soda can lantern on: July 03, 2004 11:06:39 AM
i have been reading this forum on and off for some time now but haven't posted much because i didn't have a digital camera.

but now i do so - yay! - i can share some random stuff i've done. i'm excited about it.

so anyway, first off - here is a lantern i made out of a soda can. i was going to make a bunch of them and hang them from the skylight over our dining table but my roommate nixed it (after initally approving of it! grrr!)...

basically what you do is, you fill the can (not all the way though) with water and freeze it. then you cut the sides of the can with  an exacto knife or box cutter. to hang it, you have to leave the pop tab on and use that to attach some picture wire.  to be able to put a tea light in there, you have to hollow out a little niche for it because the bottom of the soda can is convex on the inside. i just stuck a screwdriver through the top of the can and banged it out. it doesn't look too pretty but once the candle is in there, you don't see it anyway so it doesn't matter.
