1  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Ouch my bum! - What do you all sit on to sew? on: July 22, 2012 10:28:38 PM
So it dawned on me the other day when stretching my back from a particularly long bout of sewing that my rear and back are always KILLING ME when I sew. I have a cheap wooden chair from ikea which is alright, Ive tried pillows on it, or I will pull up a table and sit on the edge of the bed. Probably really bad. I realized I actually sew as little as possible just because I am so uncomfortable at my sewing table.

So, the question is - What do you sit on to sew? I am willing to upgrade to a magical chair that will make my back and bum happy but Id like opinions :-)

4  COOKING / Dessert / Nyan Cat Cake - failure or success? on: August 24, 2011 04:54:57 PM

Had a cake competition at work and I had a grand scheme of making fondant and pop tarts and magical rainbows.... then I got horribly sick up to the day before the competition so I had to settle for the fastest recreation my tired self could make.

I am sharing this in case anyone needs a super quick nyan cat cake idea that doesn't break the bank. I used M & M's for the rainbow, poptart for the poptart, then bought a thing of white frosting and used food coloring to make the colors I needed.

5  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Are you having a bad day? on: August 23, 2011 08:57:46 PM

Made this AGES ago and just realized I never uploaded any photos of it! I love this saying so I threw together a pattern for it. Depending on who you are it is either very motivational or can be considered maybe a bit rude? You decide!

6  CLOTHING / Costumes: Completed Projects / MC Polar Pants the Magical Dancing Polar Bear --- and Music video! :-D!! on: October 03, 2007 01:24:12 PM
Hi again! You might have seen our last post about our magical adventures making 4 tiger zombie costumes for a music video a few months ago,(https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=188035.0) well now we have something new to share!

We worked on another music video with director josh forbes for the Artist Jenny Owens Young for her remake of the song - Its getting hot in heere. We Made this wonderful Polar Bear costume for the video which you can nooow seee! ( BTW the polar bear was TessiTessi!!!! and I was sasquatch for about 4 sweaty hours before I got too claustrophobic and had to get out....ugh!)

If you have any questions feel free to ask, Tess has oh so many stories about being a polar bear...heh...

The video on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CymTfUKv8Tw

Pictures from the set and making ofhttp://www.flickr.com/photos/bahkubean/sets/72157601179208199/

and now a quick few pictures! I made the head, tess made the body and it was made with white fleece. We literally made him in ONE day working at the director's house while he was working on the set at the studio. It took the entire day and a section of my hand to finish it ( I burned myself REALLY bad and tess had to finish my parts for me, she is amazing!!!)

(We made those bear costumes too!)

Hope you enjoyed MC Polar Pants!!!! OH YEAH He has his own myspace too : http://www.myspace.com/mcpolarpants

7  CLOTHING / Costumes: Completed Projects / *UPDATED***Tigers....zombies....tiger zombies. A tale of 2 craftsters. <IMG HVY> on: August 05, 2007 11:55:25 PM
--------------EDITED 10/3/07-----------------

Hey guess what!?!?!? The video is finally out!!! Watch it and let us know what you think, Tess and I are proud Tiger mamas :-)

Hey guys!  You never know what will happen when you post something on crafster.  A few months ago I posted a picture of the sock monkey Steve (https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=105491.0)  that I created for the sock monkey challenge.  Someone saw it online here, and contacted me to make costumes for his music video which was called "Tigers" for a band called "Division Day" and was to star tiger zombies!! I didn't have much time, so I enlisted the help of my friend tesstessi, and we started working! I took care of heads, which was quite an undertaking.  It's a little bit complicated, lets just say the head involves punch bowls, spray foam, and lots and lots of tape, hot glue and stuffing.  I free handed the heads, draping and sewing as I went along.

After the main part of the head and the framework was constructed, I put on the details. Black burlap patches to make the stripes, red fabric for the gashes, black yarn for the stitching, broom bristles for the whiskers, black vinyl for the nose, white for the teeth, and buttons and yarn to make the disembodied eyes.

All in all, it took about 1 week of solid work and a few all nighters (and one day spent at comic con) to get these 4 suckers done.  We went up for the shoot so we could trouble shoot the costumes and be there in case of disaster. Despite being heavy and a bit unweildy, the heads didn't need to be edited other than a nip and a tuck here and there to make sure people necks weren't exposed.  I don't envy the person inside the costume, the burlap is scratchy, and it's hard to see/breathe inside those heads!

And now the the pictures:

8  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / new Species --- Yetti crab! on: June 15, 2007 09:59:39 AM
Okay this is for those of you who are a geek like me and remember when it was announced last year that they had found a new species of a furry crabby lobster-like animal. I thought they were so cute! So I made one for myself! :-)
Unfortunately I used that fur that when you cut it it explodes into a million little hairs so my entire craft area is COVERED in hair! On the floor, table, chair, ceiling, and mostly me! I dont think I will ever get it all off but still, I think it was worth it heh. I probably wont keep him since he is all white and Im afraid of getting him dirty.

enjoy and let me know what you think!

9  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Her name was Lola, She was a showgirl Sock Monkey.... on: June 03, 2007 05:28:07 PM

So, you know that song right? where Lola the show girl wallows away the rest of her life because her beloved Tony was shot by rico?

Well that isnt the whole story.

Turns out shortly AFTER the demise of Tony she met a very geeky and strangely attractive sock monkey by the name of Scooter! and it has been snorgles and kisses ever since.

The whole thing about her being an old hag at the disco 30 years later was totally a lie, Barry was just jealous because she turned him down for a date.

Lola and scooter were made by hand+ sewing machine, the only thing not made by me was scooters jacket, gear, glasses and lolas wig! enjoy!

For more photos of lola and scooter on flickr click here!
