1  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Nancy Drew Swap (SIGNUPS CLOSED, Sendouts: September 12) on: September 04, 2008 09:56:56 AM
Hi everyone!

Swap send out is approaching so I'm just checking in to make sure everything is going OK for everyone...Let me know if you're having any concerns, or if you know you might be late sending so I can note that.  Koolkoala, I'm almost done with your package! One of your things is extremely detailed so I'm still working on that part.  I'll be mailing out next week!

Hi koolkoala:

Depending on the organizer, feedback is left at different times, normally at the end of a swap.  I've left you feedback in your profile, though, since you sent your package and I recieved.  Wow; thanks again for sending so early; I'm really impressed by your initiative!  You've been awesome to have in this swap!  If you find you really like swapping, did you know that you can organize your own swaps after you've participated in two (this swap counts as one, so you'd just need one more)?

Hi guys!

How is everything going so far?  Don't worry, Captjanewy, I made the deadline to be wide for that reason; in case someone goes on vacation or something comes up.  I can message your partner in about a week or so if you'd like me to check in with her.  In the swaps I've been in, something like this always seemed to pop up:)  Thanks again Koolkoala for sending your package so early!  I've already got one of your big things done and have another idea for something small...check your PMs for that.   If anyone has any questions or concerns, again, please let me know Smiley

Oh yes, I also love my Andy.  I don't really have the money for actual prints of his, so I cut out some close to-scale photos in books and put them in frames with a fancy cardstock beige background, and hung them up in my entranceway in my house.  I'll take a pic tomorrow or Wednesday of that little Andy Warhol gallery; I have to put up two other pictures to balance out the layout hehe:)

How is everyone doing so far?   Any questions or concerns? Sorry to hear about the trouble you had, koolkoala!  Unfortunately, Nancy isn't as popular as she once was, so it can be a little harder to find an easy source of info for her.  Still, I'm more than happy to help if youd like me to.

Happy Sleuthing!
5  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Go Green and Recycle Swap on: July 17, 2008 04:35:19 PM
I was going to join one of the other swaps, but I'm so glad I waited for this one!  Recycling is one of my main motifs.
6  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / Re: GLass bottles? on: July 12, 2008 06:55:45 PM
I collect funky-shaped drink bottles from those expensive drinks-Orangina, Lorina lemonade, etc, and i put those small rocks inside them (you can get them from the dollar store) and put fake flowers in them.  They're really pretty as a nice kitchen table arrangement or even as a small decoration to go on your computer desk too.  I've also made cute little night lights with them and those little push button LED lights.  Just hollow out a stack of coasters (either paper or those little plastic lattice ones you get from the dollar store), put the light in where you hollowed it out, and put the bottle over the light.  No drilling or wiring involved; all you do is change the light's AAA batteries when they run out.  Heres the original Craftster post I used:  https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=199294.0

Good luck!  If I have any other ideas I'll let you know Smiley
7  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Nancy Drew Swap (Signups: July 5-28, Sendouts: September 5th) on: July 12, 2008 06:16:17 PM
Hi everyone!

Thought I'd touch base; I've added some names for the swap!  Here are some other good websites where you can find out more about the Nancy Drew series if you'd like:  http://www.series-books.com/nancydrew/nancydrew.html (this has cover art too), and http://www.nancydrewsleuth.com/  (this site is a really thorough overview of everything Nancy Drew).  If you're looking for any of the books, I noticed one of the Borders in my area having the new yellow hardcover reprints in the children's section.  I'm hatching some rough craft ideas for the swap and I'm going to probably dive into my collection this weekend and finish "The Ringmasters Secret".  Nancy makes for perfect weekend reading.

Details of swap:

Attention all you Nancy Drew fans!!  We will be swapping Nancy Drew-themed items!

What We'll be Swapping:

We'll be swapping items of all kinds (no restrictions) with the only stipulation that the item has to have something dealing with Nancy Drew on it.  That can be Nancy herself, or a person, place, or thing from one of her books.  You can even swap Nancy Drew books, since they can be a bit hard to find.
We will be making a Nancy Drew package for our partners, consisting of 1 Large, and 1 medium project, based on their favorite Nancy Drew books.  You and your partner can also agree, if you'd like, (this is totally optional)- to swap actual Nancy Drew books with each other (again, this part is optional).  In the questionnaire below, try to list a few of your favorite books to give your partner a better chance of finding your favorite book.  If you can't find your partner's favorite book, you can also check your local library or if you'd like to expand your own collection, EBay or Alibris (http://www.alibris.com/).  There also some good reviews on Epinions.com, like this one, that you can use as well (http://www.epinions.com/Mystery_of_the_Brass_Bound_Trunk_by_Carolyn_Keene/display_~reviews).

Project sizes\specs:
(These are just so you get the idea, you don't have to make these if you don't want to)
Large:  Purse, skirt, throw blanket, I pod pillow, video\DVD organizer that is large in size, jewelry set (5 or more pieces), Large size papier mache item
Medium:  I Pod case, clock, household organizer (i.e. remote control organizer), book purse, jewelry (individual pieces), Medium size papier mache item.

Swap deadline:  I have made the swap with a September 12th deadline so that everyone can have ample time to craft without feeling rushed.   However, I will be following up with everyone in the swap by PM or email once a week just to check in.  Also, it would be helpful to post on here once a week, as well.

Sending\Receiving:  Please send all packages to your partner by September 12th.  After you've sent, please PM me to let me know you've sent, and include the confirmation number of all packages sent.  When you've recieved your package from your partner, please PM me to let me know, so that I may give them credit.  Also, please take pictures of what you've recieved and post them in the Swap Gallery post I will set up at the end of the swap.  I will leave feedback for everyone immediately after the swap.

9  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Re: strainer lamp on: April 19, 2008 03:30:25 PM
well... It's not safe... but I only light it when I'm in the room...

I've seen the strainer-thing in a lot of different places... the latest was Mark Montanos big-ass book of crafts (which is a book I really like)

thanks for your comments!

Yeah...I saw that project in Mark Montano's book too; it was the Drinking Straw Wall Sconce and it was made with a fryer basket.  I tried that one and almost started a fire in my house when the night light and extension cord he said to use sparked all over and burnt out.  The extension cord was actually black around the outlet!  Not to be a Fretful Frieda, but be careful Smiley

I think it actually got to me today cause we got a "you have a package" memo from the office.  I'm so glad it came before I moved...I didn't want that to get lost.  I sent yours today.  I had the stuff all done on the 15th; its just hard to mail it when the post office closes when you get out of work Wink  I really hope you like what I made!! I took my time to make sure it was absolutely perfect!
