3  Ghost Stories: Pagan Art Camp (Los Angeles) - Sat. Oct. 30 (1-4pm) in California: South by Garbage Collector on: October 29, 2010 04:50:53 PM

When: Saturday, October 30, 2010 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Remember all those times you got in trouble for making inappropriate art in craft class, or going all tranny on your mom's make-up case? This adults-only afternoon at Pagan Art Camp is a chance to go back and get it right (or perhaps even more wrong), as a group of artists (Laura deLeon, A. McLean Emenegger, Ashley Gibbons, Jessamyn Lynn) lead workshops in altar-decorating, face-painting, found-materials instrument building, and tarot.

Free to hang out, eat something, and check out the DJ.

4  Volunteer LA Crafters Needed 4 Community Art Project (Knitters/Gen Crafty Types) in California: South by Garbage Collector on: April 28, 2010 06:34:11 PM
This is a very fun, extremely creative volunteer project with great people and a cool, low-key community atmosphere ... hope you consider volunteering your mad skillzzzzz!!

Songs & Dances of Imaginary Lands Community Arts Workshops

Help create the props, sets and costumes for Overtone Industries' upcoming production, Songs and Dances of Imaginary Lands directed by O-Lan Jones, a site-specific contemporary opera, taking place in Culver City in July 2010. In a series of free public workshops, donated recyclable materials will be transformed into sets and costumes through community participation. Looking for crafters, artists, knitters++ All levels from professionals to beginners are welcome.

The goal is to make all props, sets and costumes from recycled materials.  Although the organizers are looking for all level of crafty types, they have a particular need for anyone with basic knitting/crochet skills to knit plastic bag fabric which will be made into costumes.  This could be done at home!!

Songs and Dances of Imaginary Lands takes the audience on a journey with working class Tom and aristocratic Sue, who have lost their identities. The couple reclaims their story by means of a device that allows them to inhabit the "lands" that hold the pivotal experiences of their lives embodied in songs, dances, pledges of allegiance, and rituals indigenous to those turning points.

Saturdays & Sundays til 6/20/10, 12:30-4:30pm (except no workshop on 5/9/10)

Questions, see site or please call: (323) 655-2410 during business hours, Mon-Fri.

Thanks for reading & considering this.  I went last Saturday and it was super fun -- with very cool, down to earth, creative people!!

Haha ... I can't keep away from this thread ...

How about some stenciled or Gocco-ed napkins with either singers pics or other sorts of Vegas imagery?  A friend of mine made some napkins similar to this with print gocco on paper cocktail napkins ... but stencil would work too.

There are lots of stencil and gocco threads on Craftster ... a couple links showing the process fyi:
