1  My first experiments making cuffs in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by not2old4glitter on: June 11, 2007 11:14:16 PM
First I am not sure if this goes here or in clothing?
sewn fabric cuffs. It's worn like jewelry but made more like clothing?
hmmm so I'll try it here, if this is wrong a mod can move it.

I decided to try making some cuffs. I have all these small pieces of cool fabrics left over and never throw them away, but didn't know what I could use them for. Cuffs! The perfect solution, and I have some metal studs, bits of ribbons , single buttons, all kinds of things to use up.

so I made these over the weekend, most of them  are using 3 different vinyls or some fake fur:

the lining on this is a black and white bat print

the lining on this is black and silver pinstripes

lining is purple leopard print corduroy

lining is zebra print cotton

anyway now I think that I really love making cuffs and using up scraps, and they are more comfortable than metal bracelets because they are flexible.

2  Faux-snakeskin wristlet from thrifted jacket in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by not2old4glitter on: May 19, 2007 03:39:02 PM
Last week I  got this jacket at the thrift store for $3.

It's actually pretty cute as a jacket, but it's too small for me so I bought it just for the fabric. It's a fake-snake vinyl with a metallic silvery sheen. I never see cool fabric like this in the fabric store so I'm always on the lookout for cheap clothing I can cut up.
Anyway I knew I could probably make at least 4 things out of it. This is the first one, a wristlet made from just one sleeve and part of the belt for the strap.

I decorated it with a patch of black vinyl and a star of glitter naugahyde, and some metal studs.

The lining is a steel-grey irridescent nylon and there's a zipper pocket inside

I really love this fabric and I think my next project will be a passport case for my vacation next month. I can make that from the other sleeve.

3  folding totebag that folds into it's own pouch! in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by not2old4glitter on: May 18, 2007 02:42:12 PM
I just made this coolest thing last night. It's a lightweight nylon totebag that folds up and stuff into it's own little attached pouch. So  if you need a temporary large bag but don't want to be stuck carrying it all day, you can fold it up and stash it in your smaller purse.

My inspiration for making it was, whenever I go to the post office to mail packages, I carry them in a plastic grocery bag. I make beautiful purses and bags, and here I am carrying an ugly grocery bag!  Tongue But the thing I liked about that was that after I mailed the stuff I could just roll up the plastic bag and stick it in my purse. It was small and lightweight. So I decided to make something like that out of a  thin but strong lightweight fabric that would have the same convenience. I used ripstop nylon and just made a basic square tote bag, really easy.
But then I thought, wouldn't it be cool to have a little pouch to keep it in that was attached so I wouldn't lose it? Tote bags and zippered pouches are both super easy and common, but attaching them together makes it the coolest thing!

so here is the amazing transformation
first you see a cute little zipper pouch

then you unzip it and see what's inside

you start to unfold the tote bag

keep unfolding...

all the way unfolded

with straps unfolded

then tuck in the pouch to the inside of the tote bag

turn the pouch inside out and you can use it as a pocket

I am so excited about this thing. I'm going to be travelling next month and I think this will come in so handy. Grin No more plastic grocery bags for me!

4  Romantic pink tote bag in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by not2old4glitter on: April 09, 2007 10:47:41 PM
I got this fabric at  a Jo-ann that is closing, it was  the little 16" square samples from their special order department. This fabric was so  pink and kitschy I had to get it. It's like little bo peep or something.

It's lined with pink twill, and the lining has one zippered pocket, 2 patch pockets and 2 pen slots

7  Denim and grosgrain wristlet in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by not2old4glitter on: April 07, 2007 07:26:53 PM

I made this little wristlet out of a scrap of heavy dark denim and a scrap piece of wide red grosgrain ribbon. I added some machine stitching in 5 different colors to give it more interest. It's lined with an irridescent raincoat nylon taffeta.
This was a last minute gift for a girl at my work who is leaving. She is super-fashionable so I wasn't sure if anything I could make would measure up to the status bags she usually wears, but she liked it.  Grin

8  Reversible brown and aqua purse in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by not2old4glitter on: March 25, 2007 09:41:27 PM
I just love these colors together.
Brown and aqua zigzag side out

aqua solid side out

It  has a zippered pocket on the inside and another zippered pocket on the outside...um, whichever side is the outside! Cheesy let's just say there's a zipper pocket on each side.

I wanted a closure that worked  no matter which side was out, so I used magnets in a fabric tab

9  Mod pink flower power handbag in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by not2old4glitter on: March 25, 2007 09:27:28 PM
There is a Joann fabrics near me that's closing, and they are selling off all their little fabric samples  from the custom order home dec section. I bought waaaay too many of those! The sampled are only about 16" square, so  you can make a pillow or a purse, basically.
I've been making purses!
This one I especially like because it combines a big mod daisy jaquard with a candy-pink faux-snakeskin. It's so spring-y!
Also this was my first time doing these kind of handles with the plastic tubing inside. I like them and they feel really comfortable in the hand. I'll definitely use them again.

The inside has a two pockets, zippered and patch. It's lined in pink denim.
