2  U.K. AND IRELAND / SCOTLAND / Craft group in Glasgow on: September 01, 2009 06:01:40 AM
Mandors will be starting a free weekly craft group, on Sunday afternoons in the store.
Bring along your craft (knitting, crochet, quilting, cross stitch etc) and share your skills.

This will be starting in October, and there will be workshops every so often in various skills like hatmaking, corsage making etc, at a small cost.

Is anyone interested?
3  COOKING / Dessert / cupcake tips on: August 07, 2009 09:23:13 AM
So, I kind of volunteered to make 100 cupcakes for my friend's wedding.
I like baking, made lots of cupcakes before, but I really want these ones to be perfect.

What tips do you lovely guys have to make cupcakes look as pretty as possible?
I mean all kinds of tips, from how to fill my cases to make sure they are all equal, and no drippy bits, right through to icing tips

4  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Valentine's Day / how easy would it be? on: January 27, 2009 02:34:38 PM
I've just seen this awesome wreath.  How easy would it be to try and make one?
Would I need to find a heart shaped thingy to start with??

5  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / salt dough issues on: December 10, 2008 02:48:06 PM
My first time making salt dough, and I have a few wee problems.

I've baked it for 3 hours, and it is still a bit squidgy at the bottom, but it is fresh out the oven.  Will it harden up ok? Or might I need to bake it again tomorrow?

The top of the ornaments has gone kind of white and flakey, will this disappear if I varnish it, or will I need to paint them to get rid of the white? I'm trying to make them into gingerbread men, and the dough was brown before I baked it.

Someone mentioned Shellack on another thread, what is that in British speak please?

6  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / candles? on: October 18, 2008 08:42:05 AM
Hm, so far I've decided to make wee hampers for my friends.
Thought about putting gingerbread men, gingerbread tree ornaments, fudge

Then I stumbled upon the idea of candles. i used to have a candle making kit, but just threw it out when I moved home.  What kind of initial outlay are we talking here to get enough supplies to make about 10 candles?
What exactly do I need to buy? and what can I improvise on?  Where is a good place to buy these things? I live in the UK
I'd quite like to make them scented, but not necessarily coloured.

(oh, and any other ideas as to what to make to go in the hampers would be great)
7  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Inspired by this forum! on: October 09, 2008 02:56:55 PM
I've just been having a wee read of this, and have come up with a great idea for presents for my friends this year.

I'm going to make gingerbread men Christmas ornaments, and stick photos of their faces over the face in the man.

I should possibly try to start this now, or else I'll forget.

Just need to figure out what to make for the rest of their gifts, and the rest of my family, and my boyfriend, and..... oh god, is there only 3 months to go?!
8  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / cookie longevity? on: December 17, 2007 05:43:47 AM
I want to bake cookies as gifts for my friends for the holidays.
But I'm not sure exactly when I'll be seeing them....

So am looking for a Christmas Cookie recipe for cookies that either last for ages without going off/stale, or ones that can be frozen and defrosted when I'm going to see them. Or dough that can be stored in the fridge and baked as required.

Is this going to be possible?
