2  Texas / Texas: Central / MOVING TO AUSTIN, KIDDOS! on: February 02, 2005 10:03:46 PM
okay, so i was planning on moving to new york forever to persue all of my crap, but all of these kickass things started happening for me... you know, WITHOUT me even living there, so i decided to set my sights on something closer and cheaper and not as nuts and try to accomplish my goals from a place where i'd actually have TIME to work on... said things and goals... instead of busting my hump non-stop just to make rent. but someplace, you know, bitchin'. so yeah. austin. i'm moving there in march.

3  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / oh, a recent art show... on: December 28, 2004 08:48:31 PM
so i had an art show in abilene, texas a coupla weeks ago, and.... here are two of my favorite pieces from the show. other ones are on my website. shame on me. look at me, everybody! look at me! SHAME.

"everything is red and pink and black and brown...
and i wish you were around"

4  New York / New York: NYC and Long Island / couch surfing in nyc on: December 22, 2004 05:06:49 PM
my name is travis and i want to sleep on your couch.
i'm moving to new york (brooklyn) as early as possible in '05. and i'm not so jazzed about commuting from my cousins' place in jersey to job and apartment hunt in the beginning. i'm clean. i don't smoke or do drugs. i don't steal or break things. and i can cook. oh. and i'm vegan. and i'm fun to play board games with.

your friend,
5  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Discussion and Questions / bonding stacks of paper - ideas?! on: November 09, 2004 07:14:13 AM
hi, i want to bond the top edge of stacks of paper in the way that forms are done where you can pull the sheets out. or, you know, like how drawing papers come with the glue or whatever on the top edge. so... it would cost like 50 cents for each stack 'o papers at copymax, but i'm wondering if there's a DIY method. i mean, i could buy that bonding stuff they use up there and just get two pieces of wood and some clamps to smooooosh the stacks together (so they're not loose and so that i can apply the stuff better), but i'm wondering if anyone has any other ideas. has anyone done this before?

6  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / this costume might cross the line for me - Care Bear Costume Tutorial on: October 28, 2004 12:13:30 PM
so i was trying to figure out to be for halloween and i was STUMPED. then i saw a four-year-old in the paper dressed as a care bear. and then i decided it would be a good idea for me, a 26-year-old heterosexual male, to go as a care bear for halloween.

i was wanting to be cheer bear or the other pink one, but i couldn't find matching pink sweats. see, i decided that the best way to go would be to get a hoodie and matching sweatpants. right? right. so anyway, i found this nice ladies baby blue hoodie and pants for super cheap. i couldn't find mittens. that would have been choice. anyway...

i took the pocket off the front so i'd have fabric for the ears. then i cut them mothas out.

i found some skanky stuffing (i couldn't find my... i mean... my friend's sewing stuff) and cut it to size.

and since my... i mean... my friend's sewing machine is currently on the fritz, i handstitched the ears, flipped them and stuffed them.

and i stitched them to the hoodie. i put it on and marked where they'd to so it would be right.

and then i slept.

and when i woke up, i grabbed a white t-shirt that i don't wear (it's too big) and cut a big chunk out of it.

and then i cut it into a circle by folding it into quarters. you know what i'm sayin'.

and then i EVER SO CAREFULLY sketched out the stomach design onto some fancy stencil material. if you're up on your care bears, you'd know by now that this is a Grumpy Bear costume.

i cut out the raincloud and raindrops and spray painted them in blue onto the fabric. it's windy in west texas, so it's not totally perfect. fine, it's not CLOSE to perfect. cut me some slack, jerks.

then i drew the hearts with a red acrylic paint pen and outlined everything in black.

then i fabric glued the circle onto the hoodie (so it wouldn't droop) and stitched around the whole mamma jamma (again, by hand).

and i drew the red heart on the right cheek of the pants with paint pens.

and VOILA!!! i am Grumpy Bear. aw, the world makes me sad. but it's "to show you how silly we are when we're grumpy" or whatever. My theory is that he's grumpy because his pants make him look like kinda dumpy. tapered legs. ew.

and then i took a little nap. aww. gimme candy. wait, just gimme some cash. Grumpy Bear needs a plane ticket to see Girlfriend Bear.

7  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / git you debbil! on: October 21, 2004 11:47:00 AM
this is a piece that's going in a halloween show in lubbock, tx. it's acrylic and spray paint on canvas. 22"x28". oh, and i painted on top of a friend's first oil painting ever. so you can sort of see the old painting through in parts, which i like a lot. and there you have it!

8  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / a new commission - acrylic, spray paint on: September 29, 2004 07:41:02 AM
a supernice gal in maryland recently commissioned a painting from me. the deal basically went down like this: she gave me money and turned me loose. and here's what i came up with for her:

uuuug. if i didn't have a girlfriend, i'd totally hook up with spray paint.

9  New York / New York: NYC and Long Island / you know, moving to new york. on: August 23, 2004 11:09:58 PM
so i'm thinking that i'll be moving to new york city in... oh, february. here's what i need:

1) a nice, cheap, spacious converted warehouse apartment in a nice building with a good view, a fire escape, kitchen with an island that i can hang pots over, bathtub (feet optional), high ceilings and friendly neighbors

2) a cushy part-time job with flexible hours, high pay, low supervision and little responsibility. preferably a computer job. you know, internet access and all.

3) information on good, cheap, vegan places to eat.

so if you lovely people can get back to me on that, i'd really appreciate it.

10  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / painted guitar! on: May 26, 2004 09:53:38 PM
so since my band is touring all summer, i decided to fix up my old guitar so i'd have a backup. i masked the areas that i didn't want painted, put down a base of pink spray paint (the new fusion kind), drew some characters and stars, added red splatters and then coated the mofo with high gloss sealer. then i took off the tape and voila! a cartoony-roony git-fiddle.
