1  UNITED STATES / Massachusetts / Sewing machine doctor in Boston? on: May 25, 2004 07:01:10 AM
I have a singer sewing maching and it's not feeling so good.  I'm thinking it's time to bring it in for a check up.  Anyone know of a good sewing machine doctor in the Boston area?  Preferably on public transportation, but not necessarily.  Thanks!
2  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / empty thread spools? on: March 09, 2004 06:44:12 AM
I sew a whole lot and now have a decent collection of empty thread spools... Anybody know of anything cool/crafty to do with them?
3  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Discussion and Questions / Help me prettify some shelves/boxes! on: March 09, 2004 06:16:03 AM
Hi there craftsters,

I just found some excellent wooden wine boxes outside my local liquor store.  They're about 2' x 1' x .5'.  I plan on hanging them on the walls and using them for shelves, which I am desperately in need of.

Of course they need to be decorated somehow, and I'm having a mental block Huh about what to do.  I was thinking of painting them the color of my walls (white) and then attaching fake flowers around the front edge so it would look like a diorama (sp?) almost, or stencilling them.  I don't have a big decorating theme to my place, so the possibilities are endless.  Any ideas?
4  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Bikini top pattern? on: March 01, 2004 10:55:16 AM
Does anyone know where to find a good bikini top pattern for spandex/lycra (free or cheap)?  I made a two piece bathing suit a few years back and the bottom came out great, but I'm increasingly unsatisfied with the top.  I figured I might have better luck tweaking out a pattern than starting from scratch.  I found some fabulous cherry print lycra, so I'm thinking a 1950's style bikini top would be great Wink.  Any help pointing me in the right direction would be much appreciated.
5  UNITED STATES / Massachusetts / Boston - anyone know where to get microbeads and magnets? on: February 25, 2004 02:22:52 PM
I just discovered this site and now I must make some magnets.  I love the microbead effect and i want to make magnets out of the "Do's and Don'ts" from Vice magazine.  Also, I must have my very own collection of marble magnets.

Can anyone point me in the right direction for microbeads, magnets and marbles?

I tried Pearl Arts in central square, but of everything I was looking for, all they had was marbles, but of course they didn't have the clear ones Cry

The only other place I know of is a Michael's in Everett, but I was hoping to find someplace closer to home (downtown Beantown), or at least accessable by public transportation.

Thanks for your help craftsters!
6  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / What do I do with all this Rowan Polar yarn? on: February 23, 2004 11:44:19 AM
Hey there, crafty folk...

I have a question regarding a huge surplus of Rowan Polar yarn.  If you're not familiar with this fabulous stuff, it's a chunky wool blend that is very warm and lightweight.

I was feeling ambitious a few years back, and bought a ton of it to make a floor length hooded sweater coat.  Believe it or not, I finished the thing and realized that the pattern I used was no good at all.  It was baggy and shapeless, where I was looking for something cute and fitted.  So I unravelled the whole thing and have been looking unsuccessfully for a good pattern ever since.  Cry

So here's my question: Does anyone know of a cute sweater coat/duster pattern?  After 3 years of looking, I haven't found any good patterns for chunky knits.  Can you help please?

Thank you!!!
