They're hand drawn, then digitized/colored, and printed on a super high quality printer onto heavy cardstock.

Hit me with your crit! What do you think?
Good enough, or keep working?

Two more!

I don't know what to say about either, so I won't try to make anything up.
I hope these things work out for both of you, of course!

"My boyfriend has two kids and got a vasectomy. Now I may never have the chance to be a mom and hate him for it."
Man, I don't know what to say. That would be so frusterating!!

"Sometimes being smart, talented, pretty just isn't enough... when you're dealing with depression."
This card is really pretty and poignant, thank you for sending it to me Smiley

Made of real money and hearts  Grin

"I think that 2008 is going to be a great year for me, but I don't want to get my hopes up because all my plans will FAIL... I hope it all happens!"
Oooh, I know what you mean! Let's both just not think about it and it'll happen!

"I am too embarrassed to dance in public. partly because i'm clumsy and partly because i'm about as white and rhythmless as you can get. BUT I REALLY WANT TO!!"
Yes. This could have been my secret. Sometimes... I just go out there and make an ass of myself... and then kind of regret it? But it's fun enough that the regret doesn't really matter  Tongue

24  Re: Make-A-Friend Swap Gallery in The Swap Gallery by Fabric on: February 22, 2008 12:06:59 AM
I just received the most amazing swap package ever!!
I am so thrilled, and have been pretty much speechless since I opened it.

Here's the general overview. As you can see, the "dissect me"  heart was totally stuffed full of goodies!!

Mad stationary! All the cards are so beautiful! I particularly love the Orchard brand pear cards, they're incredible! Did you make these yourself? Also, the large one on the left is gorgeous! It was pretty impossible to get a good photo of, but it's a Chinese(?) paper card with a shiney mountain scene on it. Trust me, it's beautiful Smiley
(Also in there is a california raisins postcard, which is just about the coolest thing ever! I was madly in love with those creepy raisin guys as I grew up in the bay area, but none of my washington friends remember them at all! Therefore, this is going on my refrigerator so everyone who comes over just has to ask what the heck those things are Tongue)

Holy Mucha, batman! These post cards are sooo pretty, I love art nouveau Smiley

This card is so amazing it gets its own close up. _I. Love. It._ It is the best all purpose card EVER.

Fiesta Latina CD! This is so cool, I don't think I told you (Calluna) but a friend of mine has been trying to get me to go salsa dancing for about a month now- this CD is great! Now I can practice at home before I get dragged into public and (hopefully) look a little less foolish Tongue (This CD is seriously great!)
All kinds of random stuff CD- haven't even gotten to looking at this yet! I can only imagine what's in store Smiley  Pro max bar- is indeed tasty, and healthful! Cute little envelopes, which didn't get into the first stationary shot!

Such a beautiful valentines card! Soaps, sun and moon stickers, white sage which smells so amazing. (I'm feeling inspired to find myself a sage plant now)

Two AWESOME reconned journals! I've never had a reconned journal before, so I'm even more excited about these  Cheesy The purple one is accordion style, with art nouveau images <3 and the one on top is made out of what seems to be a thai poster and reused pages from an essay on global lesbian feminism. Let me just say, this is hands down THE COOLEST JOURNAL I HAVE EVER OWNED. I love love love that the words from the original printed pages are just slightly visible and that they say things like "Lesbianas en Accion" is over the top incredible. (By the time I got to this point in opening the package, I had to take a break to start absorbing this a little  Wink)

Gelley roll pen (yes! I too love these and secretly covet them every time i go to the university book store!) Airborne to keep me healthy! Some lotion that smells wonderful (is it creepy to talk about how much scent really added to my over all understanding of you? There's something really cool about wearing someone else's favorite scent to get into their mindset.) "Enough henna to last a pro for quite a while"  Grin with a camel stamped tag! Gift from the sea by Anne Morrow Lindbergh- Heather mentioned not wanting to drop a load of reading on an already swamped student, but I really appreciate her book reccommendations! And I also really appreciate that she went so far as to choose a relatively short one to include- you are so thoughtful! I'll start with this one, and by the end of the quarter I'll have more time and track down some of the longer books you've reccommended!

Santa Barbara and Bakersfield post cards- taped together, totally emphasizing the contrast!

Sweet sweet apron! It's so pretty- Honestly, this is perfect. It will get so much use! (Plus, how cool is it that it kinda looks like a squid when it's all spread out?)

Sweet! Darth vader stamp! Yesssss

OK. Let me prep you here, by saying that if I thought the journals were cool, THIS is hands down, the most amazing hand made thing I have ever ever received (ok, I felt a little guilty typing that as I sit here wrapped in an afghan crocheted by my mom, but you get the point!) The following item is beautifully, incredibly honest. It is perfectly flawed and it is so so so full of love Smiley I feel so very honored to be gifted with this awesome piece of you!
Since this item is so highly personal and _covered_ with writing, I decided to not put up close ups, to respect Heather's internet privacy, just in case!

This book is full of pictures and writing and envelopes full of even more goodies! It's like a gigantic post secret Smiley (Your dog is so adorable I almost cried!)
Ok, wait. I simply have to include this close up:

So, so touchingly beautiful.

Heather/Calluna, you absolutely inspire me.

(And if you're wondering where the chewy peanut-buttery candy went... well... it's in my belly Grin)

ETA: Tiny things:

Gear monster! Little lady! (I so had her growing up, and have actually been thinking about little people a LOT lately) Thimble! Rainbow bead! Candy!

"I am a terrible artist despite my bachelors degree in fine arts"
Oh, how do I respond? With a book, hows about. First of all, feel really lucky to have received this card. I completely sympathise. I am a digital art major, and I love art, but I'm digitally inept Tongue That said, I feel this point is way more important: YOUR CARD IS FRIGGIN BEAUTIFUL!! Girl, seriously, this card. is. friggin. beautiful. SO, while I understand where you're coming from, I'm also gonna take it with a grain of salt!
Is it possible you just think your art is terrible because you're looking at it in the wrong context? For example, I thought my animations were total crap because the only animation I'd really been exposed to was ren & stimpy and anime, both of which are quite polished and built for TV and usually have a really tight plot and point. But as it turns out, there's a whole world of people who animate less "professionally" AND draw weird like me... and that among them my own work kind of fits in pretty well Smiley
I mean, based on the card you sent me, it seems immediately apparent that you'd be great at ATCs (Believe me when I say I think the two sewn on bits of this post card are among my favorite pieces of little paper art to date!) and therefore you could probably make awesome cards and journals and paper crafts.
Also, if by some chance this secret is like, the BEST thing you've ever done!!, you also have the dawning age of the amateur-esthetic to look forward to! There's definitely a trend leaning towards "bad" or "child like" art.
Sorry to ramble. I wish I could call this sender up and talk to them for an hour or so, and I'm the one who sent in the phone anxiety secret!!  Sigh. If you want a huge ego boost, I have one waiting her for you, sender.

"I WILL (probably) ALWAYS LOVE YOU (Just a little bit!) (PS: Yes this picture is actually relevent Smiley)
The picture is a plant, I wish I knew more botany so I could decode this image! My immediate thought was that my boyfriend's name is "Cale," much like the bitter icky vegetable, and that maybe your loved one has some kind of plant related name. Or maybe you love this plant? Or maybe your loved one gave you this plant? I'm so curious! This card gave me the warm fuzzies and something fun to think about
PS: I like your sensibility with the "probably" and the "just a little bit." Smiley

"Some of my BEST FRIENDS are over 65 years old (I'm 23!)"
Aw, this makes me so happy. I hate age barriers, and I love hearing about older peoples' lives.

"I still have that dream. I just don't think it's realistic anymore."
Yeah, I hear that. I guess sometimes it's good to re-evaluate dreams and resize them so you can still get joy out of them, but also have a life that is satisfying and outside of the dream realm.

"I live next to a trailer park. If anything ever happens over there the thought that goes through my mind is "they're just stupid trailer trash" then I feel bad because that's the first thing I think"
Hah! Aw. I may or may not relate. I try so hard not to judge. But yes, sometimes, things come to mind and it's good to admit that we think them even if we feel bad about thinking them!

"I love to bake!"
mmm Send some my way!

"I have been taking lessons for two years now. I don't think I am any much better but I don't want to stop because I really like my teacher."
This is too cute. I hope either a) your teacher is available (and that's an appropriate relationship) or b) you like your teacher as a friend and it's just fun and happy and yay. It's a sweet card, no matter what though.

"I think you're adorable and sweet and funny. But I hate that I'm not pretty enough for you. How can you be so shallow? But let's face it... you don't even really know how I feel about you..."
Awwww. What can I say? Maybe just say something! Like "HEY! I THINK YOU'RE AWESOME!" I've actually done that before, and -holy crap- it actually worked!  Maybe their not actually shallow... but putting up a shallow front to look cool (I guess that's still kind of shallow...?) Sigh. I guess my impulse is to say, may as well talk about it! Not much to lose, at least that I know about Smiley PS: your card is also really quite beautifully shiney!

Wow, so, my most honest response would be:
I'm sorry it's taking over your life, but way to break a huge stereotypical gender barrier! Never heard of internet pr0n being a female obsession, I'm actually really interested to have received this card.
I hope it's not getting in the way of RL, though. If it is, I wish you the strength it takes to take approach the internet with two hands once more!

Back says: "My luggage always gets to be one of the ones that are checked. I think it's all the crafting tools i have in it."
This also never occured to me! I really like the idea though! I'm curious what kind of notes you would leave in there (Like "please don't open this bag it's full of dirty undies" or "Hi, how are your kids doing?").
And, I love that they actually write back! What would they say? Oh, the intrigue!

received my first!

I have been thinking about this all day.
I hope this is a good thing for you, but I understand if it isn't.
I just want to say that I can really appreciate this card.

29  a pattern that'll get me close to this (50s sleeveless v neck dress) in Clothing: Discussion and Questions by Fabric on: January 25, 2008 06:27:23 AM

I'd try to wing it (I've gotten that general body shape before through just winging it)
but I've got no clue as far as the bust.

There's gotta be a pattern out there for something very similar.
Can you point me towards it?

Here's a link to the orig page where the dress is sold: it's over 300 pounds!  Cry Cry

Hi all!

1. permanent ink on broken abalone, sealed.
2. permanent ink on river stone, unealed.
3. Tree, glaze on hand made ceramic pendant.
4. Owl, sculpey + acrylic paint, sealed.
5. California Poppy. Hand made sculpey shape, painted with acrylic, sealed.
6. Wire wraped glass bead with bird sealed onto back.
7. Clover set in resin.
8. Dandelions set in resin.
9. Clover set in resin (my favorite!)

Necklace made out of mixed black tigers eye beads. Each bead is really different and refracts either blue, yellow or greenish light. They're all kind of miss-shapen too. Doesn't scan very well, but I love the variety in the beads (second attempt):

Bracelet made of dyed jade disks.

Thanks for looking!

Comments would make me happy, if you wanna give me a smile Smiley
