2  Re: vintage McCalls wrap dress in Sewing Pattern Reviews by huongandmatthew on: June 10, 2007 10:57:17 AM
okay so I didn't really finish it that weekend did i?  But I have worked on it and all I need to do now are the sleeves and ties.  But I've run into the same sizing problem with the bust.  Its too big!  I figured I could sew in the darts more???  The waist may be to big as well but a belt can fix that, or sewing in the sides.  I don't know, any suggestions would be great! pics of work in progress comin up soon!

okay here is a pic with no sleeves:

Yay! I've received from my awesome angel esmercer!!  She sent me the cutetest stuffie modeled after my bun bun.  There is such great detailing on this thing, the pictures do not do it justice!  Thank you!! I love it!

It comes with a traveling cushion, needle ears, cute detailed little shrinky dink pins and my initials tattooed on the arm!  How freaking awesome is my partner?!

6  vintage McCalls wrap dress *edit* FINAL DRESS!!! in Sewing Pattern Reviews by huongandmatthew on: July 19, 2006 09:00:30 PM
I found this great pattern for a wrap dress on ebay.

Then I made a mock up out of cheap fabric.

I found the perfect fabric at joanns for the real thing, but they only had three yards and I need five!  Tomorrow I'm going to another one to see if they have it.  I'm really excited to make this dress again!  It was very easy compared to the last vintage dress I made.  The top part was a bit time consuming.  I still need to adjust the pattern a bit by shortening the bodice and skirt.  I also need to make the chest/front bodice area smaller because I want a more fitted look for my flat chestyness.  I was thinking about taking in the sides and armholes (the sleeves are too loose as well) a few inches.  Any ideas???

3 yrs later.... I finally finished the dress!! hahaha its been many moves and years later but i've done it! well close,  it needs a snap here and there.  I just belted it and its perfect for me!

the bust was originally too big but when i tried it on i found that it pleats in a neat way.  It reminds me of those bottega veneta  sp? dresses i love

7  Hooray Shoes!! (sewn leather, painted canves) in Shoes: Completed Projects by huongandmatthew on: July 18, 2006 10:38:02 AM
I have finally finished those hot pinkish kitten heels.  They were a pain to sew so I glued the rest of the buttons on the second shoe.  I broke several needles but after number ten I got the hang of it.  E6000 seems to be working so far for glue.  I applied glue to both surfaces and let it sit a little before putting them together.  I just won't try to peel the buttons off (though I'm tempted to, I like peeling things). I probably won't ever wear these except under jeans because they look a little tacky to me.  I don't know yet.

I was also inspired to paint some canvas shoes when I saw these babies on sale for three bucks.  The first one is a design I ripped off a pair of shoes I wanted but didn't have any money to buy.  The second pair is a mismatched design I got from an artwork I made in class.

Let me know what you think!

8  Re: quickie dress that anybody can make in Clothing Sewalongs by huongandmatthew on: July 06, 2006 12:53:57 AM
I love you rostitchery!  This was the least stressful thing I have ever made.  Plus I have more confidence with stretchy fabrics now.

I tweaked mine a bit because I didn't have enough fabric for a circle skirt.  I gathered a rectangle for the skirt part but forgot to make it smaller than my waist because duh, stretchy fabric.  So the dress sorta droops in the back but it kinda turned out okay.  And I had the skirt on wrong side out, but the hem rolls so it kinda looks like a cool detail.  Happy accidents!  I also gathered the top strips because gathering is fun.

Sorry for the shirt underneath, I was soo excited I wanted to try the dress on right away.

I didn't make my straps long enough so my infinity dress is very limited. Tee hee.

9  Re: TUTORIAL: Make a Lined Zippered Pouch in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by huongandmatthew on: July 05, 2006 07:17:24 PM
I love this tut!!  I would've never figured this out because I'm lazy and slightly dim witted/slow.  I was going to try to make these some back wards way but I found this post in time.

I'm definitely going to be making a zillion zippered pouches to hold everything from now on.

10  apron/pinaforeish top in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by huongandmatthew on: June 29, 2006 09:30:34 PM
the epitome of a four year old girl dress on a 20 something yr old girl:

Please excuse the chunky arms.  That is what I get for refusing to exercise.  I combined designs if lacy pinafore dresses and apron tops I've seen recently and ended up with a great design for a dress for my little cousin.  I'm sure she would look much cuter in it.
