1  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / are there any knitting/crocheting/quilting/crafty magazines gone digital? on: May 02, 2011 09:37:59 AM
Mother's Day is coming up, and so is my Mom's birthday.. . . same month, but this time at 2 ends of the month. .. . barring that and the fact that she's so hard to buy for, I'm thinking of a nook color, but to keep her interest, wanted to get a subscription that would auto deliver to the device every month. ..  she loves to quilt, crochet, and knit.. . but I see nothing on bn's website for this. .. . can anyone help by chance with my predicament  Huh
2  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / berocco comfort substitution help on: July 16, 2010 11:00:58 AM
I'm absolutely dying to make this afghan:
and it's made from Berroco's Comfort Yarn line: http://www.berroco.com/shade_cards/comfort_sh.html

Well, I can't really justify spending that much on yarn, especially with the stash that I can never seem to work down (it just *never* has in there what I *need*, nor can I yet part with any Cheesy) and saw the colors I wanted in KnitPicks, but unfortunately, it calls for one of the multicolored balls (antipasto to be exact). I wanted to make a cotton/lighter-not-heavy-wool-fleece afghan, and just loved the sunny look of this one (I know, I know, it's really nothing that great, but I like it!)

Can anyone suggest anything anyway that I can substitute for this? I don't think I can buy the colors I want, and then walk into the yarn store and try to mix and match with something else right Sad

Help with suggestions please? Sad
3  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / cotton yarn substitute on: May 19, 2010 08:19:34 PM

I really want to make this knitted kimono that I have a pattern for. . . it calls for 1400 yards of worsted cotton. . .  but here's the thing. . . I actually want to use the kimono, and want something nice n soft n comfy. . .. I don't want to spend a ton of money on the yarn, but still want something sort of nice/cuddly. . .can anyone suggest something reasonable? I've looked at Lion Brand, and at Knit Picks, and I've had the pleasure of using other nice yarns before, but darn 1400 yards is a lot of yarn Cheesy

Suggestions please anyone? I'd love to get it in time for my vacation coming up - the plane ride's going to be long enough to get a good start Cheesy
4  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Big help needed with reading instructions on Debbie Bliss pattern :( on: November 19, 2008 06:44:29 AM
I'm working on the Debbie Bliss seed stitch shoes in one of her books (I can't remember which exact one), and I have the following instruction:

"inc last st on next and every foll alt row."

For the 1st part I've to do this to increase from 22 to 32 stitches.

Help!!! I can't figure this one out.

I looked at the picture and it looks like it's one increase for every consecutive row. ..
so you'll have:
. ..

or should it be increasing for every other row so you have
. .

Huh  My mind reads it one way, but the picture looks like another - can anyone assist me with this? pleasseee?

8  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / desperate help for my 1st sweater :( on: November 09, 2006 03:20:22 PM
I've just received my first sweater kit - fleece artist's raglan sweater kit. . ..and it's a bottom up pattern. I had to knit in the round for 14.5 inches, with 160 stitches on the needles, using 2 balls of yarn, using 1 ball for 1 round then the other for the 2nd until I had the required length. Here's where I'm stuck:

Divide for Sleeves
Round 1: *Knit 70 sts and slide next 10 sts on a holder for underarm gussett *repeat from * to * for other side.
Round 2: *Knit 70 sts and cast on using a provisional cast on with contrasting yarn 40 sts* for first sleeve. Repeat from * to * for second sleeve.
Round 3: Knit all 220 sts now on needle.

So when I do round 1, am I supposed to have like the 1st 70 stitches done, and then the 10 on a holder, and use the same piece of yarn for the next 70?. . .. which means I'll have a piece of yarn kinda "tying" the 70 together? I'm just so lost, and did the 1st round then started getting worried, as it looked kinda funky, and just undid it all.

Please please please someone respond. .. I'm totally lost here and *so* dying to continue  Cry

I just kinda browsed down to the City Guides, to see if there's anyone I could link up to from where I'm originally from (Trinidad), and noticed there's no where to post Sad
Can we have a  "rest of the world" or "caribbean" Smiley, or something like that?
