11  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / fulling (felting) at a loose gauge on: February 12, 2006 08:26:30 AM
Okay, experienced felters/fullers this one's for you.

I'm making a version of Knitty's Satchel for the Knitting Olympics. I'm using the Cascade 220 doubled as the pattern suggests, but I'm using 10mm needles instead of 9mm  I'm trying to incorporate some mosaic work in, and I knit very tightly when I use that technique.

That being said, my gauge is pretty loose. Will I have problems when I go to felt it? I haven't tried it before, and I don't know if things at loose gauges felt differently than at normal or tight gauges. Any comments would be lovely.

(Oh, and so you know, I didn't do a gauge swatch because I never do, and I don't think I'd have enough yarn if I swatched and felted.)
12  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / paper bag journal (four large-ish pics) on: February 06, 2006 01:55:33 PM
Since this is the papercrafting/journaling/book making section, I thought it might be a good idea to post pictures of my paper bag journal, which I made for the Penpal Journal Swap (link to gallery).

I used five brown lunch bags, which I folded in half and punched (very tediously) with a Silent Setter, as we had no regular punches in sight. I cut down 12x12 paper to about 4.5x5 for each regular page, and made random pockets out of the rest. I edged all of the pieces of paper with turquoise ink, except for the circles. When I was finished assembling the pages, I tied them together with 3" (approx.) bits of various ribbons. They don't quite match what I was thinking, but that was all I had on hand.

The cover.

A journaled page.

A pocket page.

The colophon.

Check out a few more at my Flickr gallery. I hope you like it!

ETA: I really should post this in the right place the first time. Bah.
13  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / pastafarianism swap on: January 27, 2006 12:34:28 AM
Seeing as the Flying Spaghetti Monster is making the rounds, I'm suggesting a Flying Spaghetti Monster swap. The best part is that pirates are included.

Not sure about FSM or pastafarianism? http://venganza.org A quick search of "FSM" or "Flying Spaghetti Monster" will help, too.
