Pastry! Cheesy
Just started plated desserts with Chef Jule. Definitely excited for our cakes/centerpieces next term though! Looks like a great class.
3  POTTERY, CERAMICS, POLYMER CLAY / Polymer Clay: Discussion and Questions / Re: How to make clay carnations? on: February 13, 2010 07:20:05 AM

Scroll down to the bottom of the page, they have some simple pictures. Otherwise, you can make a long rectangular ribbon. Roll one edge paper thin, make sure it scrunches and ruffles as you do this. Now, simply bunch of the ribbon (ruffly side up!) to the general round shape of a carnation. I'm terrible at explaining this, but that's how we do it with marzipan, which is practically the same thing. Smiley

Oh that looks great! Smiley

I go to school with a former North Star... Smiley Haha and a former teacher of mine actually has held season passes for something like the last seven years...So it's awesome to see from fellow Minneapolis ladies on here. Smiley

if I ever have a house with space and walls that I can put nails in...I'm making this. Yours is beautiful; I really like the colours!
7  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / Re: Buttons on: July 10, 2009 08:34:09 PM
Hey there. My boyfriend and I would like to go as Jack and Meg White for Halloween, and to do so, we need a lot of buttons. And I mean a LOT.
So. I'm not picky, although somewhere around the 1/4"-1/2" inch range would be best. I prefer white, but hey, I'm even willing to paint the buttons if needed.

Please message me if you have lots of buttons to get rid of; I'd love to help you out. We'd definitely prefer free-to-cheap, as I'm a poor culinary student who already can't afford her very expensive sewing habit. So buttons on a budget are key!

Thank you!

(p.s. this is a photo of the suits we'll be making. these have roughly 13,000 buttons between the two. eep!)

I think its awesome, and I want my own. I especially like the order in which you arranged the colours...it's still rainbowy without having to be ROY G BIV. Good call.

.....time to start collecting scraps! Smiley

Aww.....I used to have about a dozen empty Absolut bottles sitting around, and I couldn't come up with anything easy to do with it, so they ended up in the recycling....this is such a great idea! I love it!
10  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Re: I need about 13,000 small, white buttons. on: June 16, 2009 08:56:19 PM
I looked at using pailettes, the only catch is that they'd have to be a very matte finish, at the risk of looking too gaudy. Although I suppose I could just paint them.....hmmmm
