21  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Post-its, post-its everywhere! (With MANY pictures to prove it!) on: January 16, 2008 08:00:25 PM
So I'm not quite sure where on craftster this fits in (or if it even does!) but I wanted to share it!
I got the idea from THE GENERIC BOYFRIEND GIFT THREAD: A How-To!, a fantastically helpful thread if there ever was one!

For part of my boyfriend's Christmas present, I spent a longgg time writing on around 1,500 post-its and then, while he was gone for just an hour, COVERED his room in them!  (1,500 is an estimate... I bought 24 100-postit packs, but I didnt get around to writing on all of them - it was a lot harder than I thought - and it's a good thing I didnt, because with just the ones I did write on I was running out of places to put them!

Anyway, on to the pictures!

As you can see, I also bought some 8.5 x 11 photo post-its.  They worked great, although they didnt stick as well as I would have liked.

The bed also ended up being covered... my original plan was to do only the walls (and of course, I could only reach so far, and I didnt want to put them too low because I thought the cat would play with them! As it turned out, George-the-cat is much too lazy to care about a few post-its; he was sleeping on them more than anything!) but after I'd covered much of the walls and still had a ton of post-its left, I began sticking them on anything that didnt move away quickly enough!  The ones in this next picture, on the shirts in the closet, actually stuck really well!

If I were going to do it again, I'd try to give myself more time... the post-its in the first picture stayed up really well, because they were the first ones I did and I rubbed my finger along the sticky part on each to make sure they stayed.  I did this the week before christmas and they're still up now in mid-january!  With the other ones (especially at the end when I started getting frantic!  Cheesy) I just stuck them quickly to the wall and so for a few days post-its rained down from the walls!

And, naturally, here's the silly boyfriend himself, with another gift (Clocky, the alarm clock that runs away!)

Thanks for looking!  Smiley

Edited to Add: It's now over a year later and some of the postits (the ones on the door, mainly) are still up!  Grin  Grin

24  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / New Military Swap? on: November 24, 2007 08:12:04 PM
I think there was one of these once before, but some discussion has come up here: https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=209742.0  so I thought I'd see if anyone was interested!

We're thinking after the holidays.
25  CLOTHING / Costumes: Completed Projects / Pretty Lyrical to Sexy Salsa: Dance costume recon! on: August 13, 2007 07:08:04 PM
Today I took one of my costumes from this past year (We did a lyrical dance to Lips of an Angel by Hinder) and made it into something I could actually wear!  It was a pretty simple recon, mostly ripping out the top seams, resewing them and cutting the skirt!

Here are some before pictures... (I'm in the middle of the back and then on the right)

All pictures are clickable, by the way... that way they'll load quickly and if you want to see more detail you can!  Grin

After pictures!!

And, under craftster law that states all twirly dresses must be posted with an action shot:  Cheesy  An action shot!

You will send a stuffy to your partner by June 13, along with a bio and contract that your partner will sign and send back promising to love and care for your stuffy as if it was their own.

You should work on finding your little visitor and writing his/her bio as soon as you are approved for the swap, since the first send-outs are only a week after partners are matched up.  You don't have to do any crafting for the first send-outs, though (unless you are making a new stuffie, which, of course, is fine), so I am hoping that only a week to send out for the first time shouldn't be a problem.  Let me know if you'll be sending late for some reason.

Once you recieve your new little visitor, show them around!  You should visit at least 8 different areas/parts of town/activities so that they can get the real experience of your community.  Of course, the more places they visit, the better!  And be sure to take lots of pictures to send home with your new friend!

You will be required to send pictures and some momentos from the stuffy's trip.  These can be crafted, bought, or both.  Try to send souvenirs that are unique to your area!  In previous rounds, craftsters have made their little visitors outfits or accessories, so you may do that too if you like.  Discuss how much you'd like to send with your partner.

Send your partner home by August 29.  I know that's a long time for the swap to go on, but most little visitor swaps end up being extended by a month or so, so I'm just planning ahead.  Smiley  If you'd like to send the stuffy back earlier, again please discuss it with your partner.

To Reiterate:
* Send your stuffy, its bio, and the contract to your partner by June 13.
*Sign your partner's contract and mail it back AS SOON as you recieve their stuffy.
*Take your little visitor around town and show them the sights!  Make sure they have fun, and stay safe!
*Make the scrapbook and make or buy some souvenirs for the stuffy to remember its trip by.
*Mail the stuffy, the scrapbook, and the souveniers back to your partner by August 29

IF YOU ARE MAILING WITHIN YOR OWN COUNTRY, YOU MUST GET A DC NUMBER when you send your stuffy and when you send your partners back! if youre mailing internationally, you MUST KEEP YOUR RECEIPT (or other proof of mailing that is approved by me before sending)! I suggest taking a picture of your receipt right away, so that you dont have to worry about losing it by the time we start to worry about your package!

Once you are matched up with your partner, please stay in contact with them!  If you haven't heard from your partner in a while, please let me know!  I hope we don't have any flakers, but if we do, it's better if we catch them quickly.

THIS IS A COMPLICATED SWAP AND ITS LONGER THAN MOST. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE read everything before you sign up, and make sure you can commit to everything.

THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND WHILE CHOOSING A STUFFY TO SEND-
- small is better than large. not only do you have to ship it, your partner has to ship it back!  also, small stuffies tend to be easier to haul around town than large ones to
- swaps arent perfect, and neither is the mail system. please dont send something youd be heartbroken to lose. There have been flakers in previous rounds.
- for better photos, send a stuffy thats poseable
- your partner might have allergies, so its best not to send something your cat loves to cuddle up with or thats been sitting on a shelf next to your incense collection!
- stuffy doesnt have to mean stuffed animal, feel free to send some sort of a doll instead!

If youre up for it, PM me your info (see below) AND post here on the thread. That way Ill know that youll get notification of anything I post here.

If you want to participate, information to send to organizer:

QUESTIONNAIRE TO ANSWER:
Name of swap
Craftster username
Email address
Your real name
Mailing address
Would you be willing to ship to an address outside of the US?
Would you prefer to ship to an address outside of the US?
Do you have any allergies that would prevent you from exchanging stuffies with smokers, pet owners et.c.?
Is your stuffie from a home where people smoke?
Do you have any pets (that someone might be allergic to)?
Anywhere in particular (or any type of place) your stuffie would like to go? (I will try to match people up so that the stuffie will get to see something different from their home environment.)
Where do you live? (i.e. a rural town, the ghetto of New York...)?
What kinds of sights would you like your stuffy to see?
What kinds of signts would you take your visitor to see?
Do you want your stuffy to come home exactly as sent, or can they experience the joy (and possible stress!) of body modifications while traveling? (ie piercing, tattoo, new hair style)
Are you of legal drinking age where you live?  Is your stuffy?
What sort of creature is your stuffy?
How big is your stuffy?
Any requests (not guaranteed!) of what size visitor you'd like?
Any requests you have regarding who you'd like to be paired up with? (No promises  Wink )
List here anything that might offend you or your stuffy: (ie, religion, politics, booze, etc)

Here's a bio from previous swaps:

30  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Ziploc Omelette- Easy and Yummy! on: November 08, 2006 08:22:51 PM
My mom and I just tried this today and were really impressed, so I thought I'd share with you wonderful people!

All you do is crack two large eggs into a ziploc, add whatever ingredients you like (ham, bacon, cheese, green pepper, etc.,) shake it all up, zip the ziploc (being sure to get the air out of the bag) and place it in rolling, boiling water for 13 minutes!  After the 13 minutes, take out the ziploc and the nice fluffy omelette will slide right out of the bag!  Very tasty.

My boyfriend and I were thinking this would be perfect for camping- mix it up/ ziploc it beforehand!  Also great for having a bunch of people over- you can do several omelettes in one large pot of boiling water and everyone can have whatever ingredients they like!

(Of course, its not really an omelette since the ham and cheese and such isn't inside the eggs...but its still yummerly and easy!)
