62  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / HELP! New to lace knitting! on: June 25, 2005 03:09:36 PM
I just started making a lacy scarf and got confused on the very first line! I cast on 45 stitches and then it tells me to do this:

K5, *K2tog, yo, K1, yo, SKP, K5, rep from * to end

Which leads me to believe that I would end at the * with the last K5 being the last 5 stitches of the row.....but.....when I do all that I end up with 4 extra stitches after that last K5. WTF?!

Now I swear I read somewhere that when a pattern tells you to "yo,K1" it really means to just yo. Is that correct? Or should I actually be doing what I did which is to knit 2 together, bring the yarn between my needles to the front, knit the next stitch by bringing the yarn over the needle, knit the next stich normally, and then do another yarn over?

Please help. I have no idea why I have those last 4 stupid stitches.  Sad Huh
63  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Roxana's 4th B-day hat on: May 04, 2005 03:21:07 PM
I finished this hat last week but I just got a picture of Roxana wearing it so I thought I'd post it here for all of you to enjoy the cuteness. It was such a fun, quick knit and she loves it! Here are pics:

64  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Secret Pals 5 on: May 03, 2005 09:25:55 AM
Does anyone know what's going on with Secret Pals 5? First it was starting on May 1st and now it seems to not be happening at all. I want to swap like crazy so I figured I'd see if any of you had any info. Thanks!
65  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Birthday Armwarmers on: January 26, 2005 08:53:40 AM
....or fingerless gloves, whichever name you prefer.

My aunt requested some armwarmers for her birthday this year so I modified the Hurry Up Spring Armwarmer pattern in Stitch 'N Bitch Nation. Instead of the vine and leaf stitch pattern I made a cable. This was my first time doing cables and thumb gussets. Yay!  Grin

66  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Purl Girl T-Shirt? on: January 09, 2005 11:32:44 AM
Okay this is not actually about knitting. I saw a picture of a pink T-shirt in one of my knitting mags (possibly knit.1, Vogue Knitting, or Interweave Knits) that had a cute little line drawing of a girl knitting a pink square and she had crazy curly hair. I wanted to get it tattooed so I cut it out and went down to the tattoo shop but they were closed. I put the pic in the cellophane on my pack of cigarettes and totally forgot about so I threw it away when I was done with my pack! Now I can not find it ANYWHERE! Do any of you ladies have any idea where I could find a pic of that shirt online?
67  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Help with spiral hat pattern? on: November 15, 2004 06:35:13 PM
So I'm knitting this hat here:

and I've run into a problem. The pattern has you knit 7 rows of each color and you increase at the beginning of every other row (1, 3, 5) and decrease at the beginning of every other row (2, 4, 6) so it comes out to be a sort of parallelogram. You bind off and then pick up 3 stitches in each stripe along one of the long ends (42 sts total) and then the next 2 rows are decrease rows for head shaping. The only problem I have is that the pattern doesn't tell you which color to use to pick up these 42 sts and knit these 2 decrease rows. I started the parallelogram with white and ended it with blue. I'm going to do the cuff in white but these 42 sts are totally seperate from that. Help? Please? Here's the pattern:

Use No. 8 knitting needles
Any worsted weight yarn (2 coordinating colors). 2 oz. of each color will make a cap.

Cast on 30 stitches. Knit 6 rows, increasing one stitch at the beginning of every odd row and decreasing one stitch at the beginning of every even row. (Inc. rows 1, 3, 5 and Dec. rows 2, 4, 6).

Row 7: Change yarn and knit rows 1, 3, 5; purl rows 2, 4, 6 doing increases on knit rows and decreases on purl rows.
Continue pattern until 7 stripes of each color are done. Cast off.

On one long edge, pick up and knit 3 stitches in each stripe (42 stitches).
Row 1: Knit 1, Knit 2 tog. across row.
Row 2: Knit 2 tog. across row. Cut yarn and thread thru needle. Pull yarn thru remaining stitches and fasten off.

Cuff: On other long edge, pick up and knit 6 stitches in each stripe (84 stitches). Knit 1, Purl 1 for 2-3 inches. Bind off.

Sew side seam and make pompom for top and attach to hat.

** The size of this cap changes according to needle size and yarn.

What color would you use?

68  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Hooded Poncho Help on: October 15, 2004 10:50:45 PM
I saw a lady wearing this poncho today and I fell in love with it but I have no idea how I would go about knitting it. So I was wondering if anyone of you could give me some help with figuring out a pattern. Here's the pic:

Thank you!
69  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / eyelash yarn help on: May 27, 2004 03:40:19 PM
I'm trying to crochet a furry trim onto some knitted arm warmers and it's really not working at all. The "hairs" aren't sticking up, they're just getting pulled into the loops and it looks terrible. Do any of you have tips for crocheting with eyelash yarn?
70  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Pants pattern? on: May 11, 2004 01:45:43 PM
Do any of you know where I could find a pattern for pants? Maybe even one on the internet? I have the Spring issue of Interweave Knits and I really like the pattern for the No-Sweat Pants but I'd like to check out more and see if I could find varying styles.
