12  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / Old, Broken Backpack on: November 29, 2006 09:12:17 PM
So I have this backpack.
It's from Landsend. I can't even find a picture of it, I guess it's retired now. But it's silver with a main section, a smaller one, a smaller one, and a little one on the front. Problem is, at least 2 zippers are broken. And...it's pretty dirty.
Anything I can do? or just alvage the good zippers? the padding? the straps?
13  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Discussion and Questions / YEARBOOK ON CD? NO WAY! on: August 16, 2006 08:10:18 PM
so, it's your senior year.
you hear this rumor that yearbook will be on cd this year. only cd.
seems like the school always pulls this experimental stuff on your class.
what do you do? raise hell. but it doesn't work. not really anyway.

so the seniors are having a meeting tomorrow morning to discuss this, and to watch some preview of the cd, so that our protest  is educated, yah know?
but a couple of us have a pretty cool idea, i think, of creating our own senior "yearbook." kinda zine style. but a little nicer.
some of us are researching and having a hard time coming up with a really good format and binding solution.
anyone have experience with creating a fairly nice looking book, fairly slim, at a reasonable cost. and that you'd love to keep forever?

we're an art school and we're pretty cool with this stuff. we plan to all create our own page and some departmental pages as well.

you guys are good at this and there are more of you, so someone is bound to have some experience. this isn't nessecarily to be all handmade, especially not hand bound. but possibly we could screen print the covers? im not suuuure at all. thanks!
14  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / stripes advice on: January 30, 2006 06:48:44 PM
what's the best way to use striped fabric for a skirt or a shirt?
for the skirt, i'm looking for the best shape and the best technique to avoid wonkiness.
for the shirt, i'm thinking a tube shape, basically. i'm pretty sure will work fine horizontal, best probably.
the skirt, i was thinking vertical, but i don't really know how to get it....right. ya know?

thanks! and these stripes are relatively narrow, like pencil width, and dark grey on cream. upholstery weight almost.
15  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Discussion and Questions / folding paper fan on: January 02, 2006 08:33:44 AM

like this, anyone made one or think they could figure out a good way to make one?

thanks for any ideas!
16  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / ripped jeans -- cute. fruits? on: November 09, 2005 04:54:53 PM
so i have these jeans. they don't fit all that well...way too big really. anyway, they ripped massively at the knee. so i sewed in some loops with embroidery thread and threaded some ribbon through that...and.....

cute? mum likes them a bit more now. i really like to wear those turquoise fishies with them.
the thread is light-bright purple and the ribbon is light seafoamy green.
17  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Chteau de Chenonceau garden reproduction on: November 09, 2005 04:45:54 PM
for french convention (highschool french "clubs" - we don't have french club so it was just french 3 and 4 classes that went). worked in a group for the "exhibit". we spent about 3 days working on it, which is pretty good.

materials: cork board, brown spray paint (there were ink lines from mismeasuring), reindeer moss, tissue paper flowers, cardboard shapes covered in green fabric

we got a tres bien or something. that's kind of like second place cept there may have been others who got the same rating. i guess the picture doesn't do it too much justice. it looked really good!

18  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / tristan and isolt on: November 09, 2005 04:36:44 PM
well okay, it's just tristan...from the myth. (more on that here: http://www.lib.rochester.edu/camelot/trismenu.htm) we were discussing in literature...and i doodle quite a lot.

what do you think? i'm starting to see the legs might be a bit too long. and the upper part of his chest is not lined up properly. it's too high. just a bit.

that's the ocean in the background......eh.

(first post in these parts! some of my old stuff is at http://www.geocities.com/iimodussaii)
19  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / WISDOM TEETH?! on: November 05, 2005 07:27:41 AM
my boyfriend is having his  wisdom teeth taken out. i won't be seeing him for a bout a week as he'll be home from school.
anyway, i'm going to see him tomorrow a few days before the surgery and i wanted to take him a care package of sorts.
HOWEVER, I've not had mine taken out.......and i don't really know what one would want?
so far i'm burning a cd....for all that alone time.

any ideas?
THANKS!
20  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / silhouette (zipper issues) on: October 10, 2005 09:08:10 AM
so i have this dress. it's a size 4...which is not my size.
however, i have no ass.
so, the zipper in the back pokes out above my non-existance, creating a rather ill shape.
anything i can do to reduce the curve?

i've already removed shoulderpads from this dress. it has mildly capped sleeves, but without seams if you know what i mean. and an empire waist with boob twisty thing...i'm sure that didn't make sense, but it's v neck, like with pockets for your boobs. hehe.
it's cut on bias, mid-calf length, and satiny.

what do yo uthink?
