81  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: Weaving in ends with difficult yarn - frustration!! on: July 06, 2006 11:53:11 AM
you could also sew a few stitches through the knots in your yarn to keep them from coming undone.

84  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Re: my first quilt... and i want to make more! on: July 02, 2006 07:10:43 AM
your quilt is great! i'm deathly afraid of starting my first quilt even though i want to make quilts sooo bad. if i could find fabric like that maybe i would be inspired. Smiley  how long did it take you? i tihink the prospect of having a first project that lasts years is part of what has kept me from starting.

sugarydaisies - i LOVE handknit holidays. of course, i have yet to actually make anything out of it, but i pull it out and look at all of the pretty pictures all the time. seriously though, there are many things that are on my to-knit list in this book, and it is totally worth it to track down a copy just to flip through if not to purchase/use.

this looks a lot like the ribbon scarves in handknit holidays by melanie falick. maybe you could look for it at the library?
87  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Re: pants from a t-shirt! on: June 29, 2006 12:44:58 PM

dooney - the shirt i used was xxl, so i had a lot of fabric to mess around with. the crotch would have been around my knees if i had left the pants as is after sewing the legs together. basically i pulled them up to where i wanted and chopped accordingly, leaving extra room for my butt. you could sew them a little unevenly (so the fabric is higher in the back) and then hem the legs so that they're even.

this is my first recontruction. or at least the first one that has worked out. for the most part i used this tutorial:

here they are!

i did add a drawstring though instead of dealing with trying to make them stay up on their own.
