cinnybuns - i did some serious swatching/number crunching when i started so that i could make my blankie wider than the one in the pattern. in order to keep everything working out nicely, you have to increase your stitch count by 38 stitches. i'm working mine in 267 stitches. i forget how many pattern repeats i added, but it's coming out to about 40 inches wide.

anomaleah - i love that color. i can't wait to see the details and such. and the balloon is ingenious. Smiley

wow fishie. you are powering through this blanket. it looks great!

it's good to hear that the bernat baby goodness is lasting for you. i just kind of bought a few skeins without paying attention to how much i was getting and then decided to make the blankie bigger. if you can make half the standard with one skein i should be more than okay with 4. Wink

not to throw a wrench into your decision making process, but the reds are really pretty!

i don't know which one you're using, but i think that red (brown-red, orange-red, whatev) is also a good gender-neutral choice. that's actually what i was hoping to find for this blanket, but on a much tighter budget. green is really good for that too though. (i'm a lot of help, huh). if i were you, i would ask the mom how she's planning on decorating for the baby or at least the color of bedding she's going to go with and then pick whichever one coordinates the best.

i'm using bernat softee baby on size 6 needles too.

after roughly 2 hrs of swatching i can definitively say that increasing the cast on by 38 works (19 works for the pattern stitch but not the moss stitch borders). so i'm casting on now with 267 stitches to make the blanket a bit wider and to make up for my guage being narrower than that stated in the pattern. hopefully i'll have a 40in wide blankie when all is said and done.

after bugging my best friend for days about what colors she wants (her mom, who quilts, has been doing the same for about a month), i decided to bite the bullet and just buy some yellow yarn. i kid you not, as i'm driving home from the craft store i get a call saying that she MIGHT find out what kind of baby she's having and if it's a girl she wants bright purple and if its a boy she wants royal blue. but i'm still making her a yellow blanket. i'll make a coordinating sweater or something IF she finds out the sex of her baby.

anyways, i'm starting my blanket nowish. i'm trying to make it bigger than the pattern suggests, so i'm adding on stitches in multiples of 19 since that's the repeat section in the first row of the pattern. those of you that are already into it, do you think this will remotely work for me? maybe i should do a 19 pattern stitch swatch to check or something...

this is perfect! my best friend announced last month that she's preggers with her second and i was hoping beyond hope that the pattern for this blanket would be posted in the near enough future that i could pull it off by september. yay! now i just have to find out what colors she's going with for baby's room this go around and buy some yarn.

thank you nashira for posting the pattern and thank you fishie for starting the kal that drew my attention to it!

i started this scarf a little while ago in some unknown brand navy dk yarn. i'm not that far into it though as it isn't exactly a take-on-the-bus project. i'll try to take a progress pic in the near future.
