1  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / song sketchbook (seriously img heavy) on: October 27, 2007 07:01:27 PM
I started this while I was listening to music one night, and my hands were idle
Almost all of them are lines I've taken from certain songs and combined with an image to get across...I don't know. the feeling it gives? Some of them are unfinished
In chronological order

messed up day of the dead skull/nautical star type thing behind it. forgive me

the screaming mouth image was taken from the cover of A Clockwork Orange. I just reproduced in charcoal (didn't want to be a thief)

this one is just silly doodling. Though I did have a song in mind at the time...bullet holes were also referenced from some outside source

this one makes me happy

Kurt Cobain. unfinished.

latest. also unfinished
2  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Stenciling: Discussion and Questions / stenciling pillowcases on: August 03, 2006 08:01:53 AM
I've seen pillowcases that have been stenciled show up a lot in the stenciling forum, and wanted to attempt doing the same thing myself. But i know some t-shirts i have done using acrylics or fabric paint have gotten stiff and this stiffness would be way more annoying on something you are supposed to sleep on. is there a way to prevent pillowcases from becoming stiff? an alternative paint source?
maybe bleach on black pillowcases? if i use freezer paper and bleach will it still bleed?
3  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / 18 yr old birthday w/ ska? on: July 31, 2006 11:50:59 AM
one of my good friends is celebrating his 18th birthday soon, but i don't know what to make him! he likes ska, bands like streetlight manifesto and reel big fish as well as phish. any suggestions?
4  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / a 3-d assemblage sculpture/guess who game on: July 09, 2006 10:58:07 AM
This is the result of an assignment i got in my design class this year...my favorite assignment. The original assignment was to break up a canvas board into an odd number of sections and then find different objects to put in those sections. Once everything was glued onto the canvas board, every section would be sprayed white except for one "chosen" section, which would remain a different color of our choosing. It was supposed to be based on the work of Louise Nevelson, purely design, but me being an artist at heart as opposed to a designer had to conceptualize it...immediately.
so i decided that i would take the eastern philosophy Jainism (which dictates that every person's life is a series of 7 hells and 30 heavens all layered together) and make the whole board into a representation of someone's life. However, i couldnt fit 37 spaces, so i chose thirteen ... seven hells and six heavens. Then i divided the board into concentric circles...and started filling in. so here's the pictures...

The whole thing

close up of center

close up of outside rings

these are the objects i used, starting from the outside to in, from birth to death

1. marbles (the first heaven, conception/birth)
2. pushpins (a hell)
3. guitar picks (heaven)...i left the underneath colored, so when you see it in person it shines a rainbow of colors on the rest of the objects
4.safety pins (hell)
5. fishing hooks (hell)
6. clothes pins (heaven)
7. thread (heaven)
8. broken glass (hell)
9. doll arms (heaven)
10. Lighters (hell)
11. little beans (heaven)
12. pills (hell)
13. nothing (the final hell, life right before death)

it's based on the life of my hero...he's my inspiration. and he's still pretty famous so i thought it would be interesting to turn it into a guessing game...so just post if you think you know who it is. there's no real prize except my adoration to the person who guesses correctly first...
5  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / we only come out at night (kind of image heavy) on: May 30, 2006 08:38:35 AM
so i was inspired by phobe.com to make my own coffin purse. after seeing the tutorial and then the ones they sell at hot topic for 26$ i decided i could make my own cheaper and better. while i definitely think it's better, i don't know that i was cheaper after all the crafting supplies i bought. but hey, at least i can say i made it myself.

here is the trial i did first using a cereal box and two old shirts. it's basically a clutch/wristlet. it came out pretty bad, so i'm glad i did a test run. i won't show the inside because... it's definitely not up to dracula standards.

the second one. i used satin this time, and added a blue ribbon back-pack style strap. i looked at my trusty jansport first to see how exactly they are put together.

the inside...lined in light purple satin...even though it looks mostly white

a shot of one of the two toggles i sewed on to keep it shut. before i started this, i naively assumed it would be easy to sew through heavy duty corrugated cardboard that had been reinforced with packing tape. i ended up having to use a thick curved mattress needle...i broke two in the process.

i'm happy with the results, except i want to jazz up the front a little bit. The ones at hot topic had crosses on them, but i don't think i want to go in that direction
6  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / dress up the little black dress? on: May 30, 2006 08:24:08 AM
I saw this black dress at the dollar store, and how could i possibly pass up a little black dress that was only a dollar? i figured it was a reconstruction waiting to happen, but it's sat in my closet for over a year, collecting dust.
i was thinking about resizing it by adding corset ties on both sides, but other than that i have no clue. suggestions?

7  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / copious amounts of fake blood on: May 28, 2006 01:08:43 PM
due to my crafty nature i've been left with lots and lots of unused items...unfortunately i've hit a crafting block. any suggestions would be really appreciated

 here is the list

1. yes, i really do have lots and lots of fake blood
2. black and light lilac satin
3. 5 shoeboxes
4. d-rings
5. doll parts
6. safety pins
7. blue and red ribbon
8. novelty patches
9. size 4 treble fishing hooks
10. clear glass marbles
11. push pins
12. lots of guitar picks
13. white fimo clay
14. small metal clasps
15. sidewalk chalk
16. my weight in magazines
17. three 8x10 canvas boards

8  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Of human bondage pants: an epic of deconstruction on: May 05, 2006 02:21:28 PM
Why these jeans came about....
1. because of a strange fascination with the human heart
2. because i love punk rock
3. it was a brainchild of an assignment i had for one of my numerous art classes
4. i'm kind of tired of people that call themselves punk and don't follow the #1 punk rock ethic: Do it yourself.

so basically i took a pair of jeans and painted a human heart on the thigh using watered down acrylic paint.  i then cut it out and re-attached it with saftey pins. i used other safety pins to construct the bondage straps on the back.

9  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Stenciling: Completed Projects / Danzig stencil! on: May 02, 2006 03:01:33 PM
i did this stencil quite some time ago....it's my favorite one. I freehanded the cover-art of Danzig's self titled album onto a plain black rag-shop t-shirt and filled it in with white fabric paint. The best part is...people are confused by girls who wear Danzig shirts. The worst part is...people don't know who Danzig is (but it's only bad because they're missing out).

sorry if the pics are blurry, all i have is a camera phone

10  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Stenciling: Discussion and Questions / painting on tights? on: May 02, 2006 02:11:15 PM
has anyone tried to paint on tights before? i'm thinking about buying a nude colored pair and painting different things on them, and i was just wondering how well this would work. at first i thought it should be just as easy as painting on other clothes...but now i'm not so sure because of the massive stretch-factor that tights have.
