1  computer keyboard jewelry... in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by mixxtape riot on: February 05, 2006 07:34:15 AM
I had an old laptop which I took apart a few days ago. I saved the keys and some other bits, hoping I could make something out of them. And so I made a pair of earrings for a friend and a bracelet by heating up a saftey pin and poking holes in the keys then connecting them with jump rings.

So what do you think?

Usually you only use freezer paper on fabric, since heat of the iron melts the plastic coating & makes it stick well. If you want to stencil on cardstock or paper, I'd suggest using a paper of the same or heavier weight to make the stencil.
As for stencils to use, I kind of thought this one would look cool + it's the only "retro"-ish stencil I have at hand.
I'm pretty sure that I got it off of stencilry.

3  last minute presents = dawn of the dead + ewoks! in Winter Holidays by mixxtape riot on: December 23, 2005 12:37:19 PM
So I've been procrastinating over making my boyfriend's present for a bit. [make that until today.] So, I'm giving him a mixtape, this Ewok pillow [we're both Star Wars nerds.], and a Dawn of the Dead shirt.

First, the Ewok pillow. [it's an iron-on transfer.]

and a closeup on the little guy. [who i kind of over-ironed. uhoh.]

The Dawn of the Dead tshirt [stenciled with acrylic paint + fabric medium.]

I got this stencil from stencilry.

And the mixtape isn't quite finished yet. But I'll get it done by tonight.

Do you think he'll like them?  Undecided

4  bubble bath, anyone? in Stenciling: Completed Projects by mixxtape riot on: November 28, 2005 01:36:44 PM
I went on a stenciling bonanza over the holiday. I thought this was particularly adorable & deserving of stencil-ness. I can't exactly remember where I got this stencil from, so if any of you can tell me who I mooched it off of, please do.

Sorry that the picture's so grainy/distorted. Silly camera.  Undecided
I think it's kind of cute. Any comments?

5  clip-on earring to... in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by mixxtape riot on: November 05, 2005 03:14:02 PM
I got up one morning and a single clip-on earring had somehow made its way onto my dresser. I thought it might look kind of silly to go about with a single earring, so i turned it into a ring! I separated the decorative piece off of the clip-on base and then found two cheap ring bases. (i thought about only using one, but it seemed sort of flimsy.) I filed down one side of each of the rings, so that the glue would adhere better. Then I spread a thin layer of epoxy on each side, clamping them together with clothespins. I used a generous glob of epoxy to affix the decorative piece of the earring to the rings, then left them out to dry for a few hours.

Here's the finished product:

What do you think?!

I'm finally getting around to putting up the pictures of a mix-cd I made a bit back.

Sorry if the pictures are all fuzzy/glare-y.  Undecided

Also, I need a bit of help with my current mixtape project.
Do any of you know of a good song that describes/deals with happiness?
Any genre is fine, thanks in advance!

7  spiffy new journals/sketchbooks in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General by mixxtape riot on: September 02, 2005 09:04:03 AM
i've been dying to do some kind of bookbinding/journal making. but honestly, i was terrified. it all seemed so difficult. so, these are my first two attempts at the process. feedback would be appreciated, especially any tips on gluing the papers into the cover. (on my first try it ended up kind of crinkly, since i had to keep adjusting it)

ooh. first post. yay!  Grin
