Simple and beautiful! - I love the pattern too.
2  COOKING / Dessert / Re: Earl Grey Cupcakes with Mandarin/Lemon/Earl Grey Icing on: June 12, 2008 04:36:58 AM
When I first saw this picture, I thought the cupcakes were potatoes!  They do look interesting though - and yummy.
I've never liked earl gray tea.. but perhaps I would in cupcake form.

Wow, that all looks really delicious.

Did you actually make the risotto, or just the sauce - if so how do you make risotto?

He looks really nonchalant, like "I'm cute and cool and I know it, but I'm just going to go to sleep."
6  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / I like to ride my bicycle... bag on: January 23, 2008 10:34:37 AM
Actually, I haven't ridden a bike in probably five or so years...

Anyway, I made this bag for a silent auction my sister is planning for something charity/ jamaica mission trip/ whatever it's going for. The point is I have to give this beauty away! ack! I'm just going to have to bid on it and buy it back.

I rarely get inspired to make bags anymore, and I actually like this one - if anyone else bids on it, they'd better watch out!

I really like contrasting colors... as you can tell.

close up! buttons! ruffles! magic!

more of a close up!  I actually cut out this bike from some bike fabric and went over it all in black machine stitching, then with the sproles (I just made up that term) I used random colors of hand stitching.

The blue fabric was actually an old cardigan - I was excited because it changed after I ironed it (100% acrylic- if that means anything), and now it's smooth and nice.
The inside is just some black sanin-y material with a zipper pocket and a regular side pocket.
The bike fabric was actually white, and I painted it that pinkish color - now I think I would have liked white better. oh well.

I dislike store-bought patterns, so I drafted my own pattern for this one - actually it's a pattern that I made and have used on a lot of other dresses, all I did is change the neck line.

The first two pieces are the front pieces (cut two of each), and they are very tricky because you have to line up two opposite curves (lots of pins) and sew it (I use a quarter inch seam to reduce unwanted gathers).  The back piece is pretty much a rectangle with a little extra triangle added at the side.  On the dress I added the triangle seperately because I realized that the dress was not wide enough.

The bottom of the dress is just rectangular panels measured to be twice their normal width and then gathered to the right width (+ pockets).

I hope that helped!

So, I found this amazing fabric at a craft sale and have been itching to make something with it.  I have been dreaming about this pattern for a while - does anyone else do this?  I get an image in my mind and then I think about all the steps, all that could go wrong, and I plan it out in my head - until I can't stand it any more and I have to make it.  I really shouldn't have made this yet because this would be perfect fabric to make a dress for my cousin.. but I couldn't help it.  oops!

C'est voila:

POCKETS (secret)!

Faces on the fabric:

Close up of the mini-ruffle.

My favorite part (and my mother's least favorite) - the bright blue zipper!
