1  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Re: How to Make a dorothy pinafore dress (updated: with link to *mini-tute*)! on: May 05, 2011 04:58:28 PM
wow! i have been searching for a tute that i understand and this is the one! thanks! your dress is so cute!

if i may ask, how much longer did you make your bust piece than your torso piece? we appear to have the same bustline and i have been racking my brain trying to figure how much extra fabric to put for the gathered part...

haha thanks! oh gosh this was so long ago, the answer is probably not very much longer - just measure around the widest part of your bust to get the bust piece length.

10  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Chanel inspired shift dress with beaded collar on: July 11, 2009 01:18:08 AM
I found this beautiful old long Laura Ashley shift dress in a charity shop in Camden the other day and thought it had loads of potential. So, I shortened it, took it in a little, added cream bias binding to give it that Chanel-esque edge, and then painstakingly sew on hundreds of swarovski pearls onto the neckline.

Et le resultat? C'est ca:

Modelled by my friend

Modelled by a hanger

Close-up of the neckline

And the original, pre-recon (I forgot to take a picture before I cut off the bottom, so this is it with the bottom bit placed on)

Comments/critiques welcome!
