These are adorable!  Well done!  Do you happen to have the link to the original tute?
2  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / The Amazing Squid Girl! on: October 31, 2011 07:37:52 PM
Amazing!  Alive!
World Famous!

Straight from the sideshow into your living room...

A real living girl with an arm of tentacles...

Mop cap created from scratch.  Opera length glove painted to match rubber tentacles from Archie McPhee.  Victorian bathing suit is a pair of shorts and a T-shirt embellished with grosgrain ribbon to make it look more old timey.  Knee highs purchased and shoes my own.

So for some reason I am incapable of buying a completed costume.  This leads to much frantic shopping, web research, crafting, and praying before the best night of the year...Halloween!

Behold this year's insanity...

I'm a sideshow freak...Squid Girl!

Check out my tentacles (ala Archie McPhee)...

Made the mop cap, embellished the shorts and shirt with grosgrain ribbon to make them more like a Victorian bathing suit, painted the opera length glove to match my tentacles, made the sash (vinyl letter stickers on satin...no iron on lettering would stick to the satin...doh!), threw on som knee highs and black flats and viola!

PS...hubby went as the guy from Grant Wood's American Gothic

(The aloof chic he's standing next to is our trusting mannequin Claire)

Crochet patterns...to add to my insanely large collection...and some wool so I can start felting...wahoo!

Look at all the little itty-bitties!  I love 'em...can't wait to start using them!

Thanks Valsped!

Got my package from Tangemeenie!

Check out the booty!  Beads, several wire bundles, jewelry findings, mini Christmas ornaments...so much goodness!

Look at all the silver beads and findings!

And some fun little plastic instruments that will be perfect for some dino ornaments!

Tangemeenie also sent this great magnet with an amazing quote on it.  Unfortunately my camera refuses to capture it.  Here's the quote:
Is always bestowed as a gift
Freely, Willingly
and without expectation.
We don't love to be loved;
We love to love.
-Leo Buscaglia

It's such a fitting quote as we just had to put our beloved birdie, Rocky, to sleep.  We loved him oodles and will miss him greatly!

Thanks so much Tangemeenie!  You made my first swap great!

9  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Baby Showers And Gifts For New Babies / Re: Baby Shower Badges on: November 07, 2009 08:29:34 AM
they were pretty easy...required A LOT of hot glue!  i pulled the elephant off the web and edited it a bit.  the ribbon loops are all attached to the shrinky dink disk.  i put a circle of felt on the back to cover up all the ribbon ends and make it look finished.  i then attached a pin back to them and voila!  they were done.  hope you have success with yours!
10  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Baby Showers And Gifts For New Babies / Baby Shower Badges on: November 06, 2009 07:38:16 PM
I co-hosted my sister-in-laws baby shower and made a bunch of decorations for the party.  These were my favorite and were really popular with the mom-to-be and the grandmas-to-be.

The centers were made out of opaque shrinky dink paper that can go through the printer.  The elephant images are from the baby's bedding as are the sage green and brown colors.

I really enjoyed making them!
