maybe, too, this is something you can discuss with your swap partner?  i'm sure some people prefer larger dishcloths and some people (like myself) would prefer smaller ones that can get into little nooks.

OK i am in, for two!

Can someone tell me a good dimension for a dishcloth?  Like, 8inx8in?

I have been meaning to get into the swing of dishcloths again to use up some extra yarn, finally the kick in the rear I've been needing Smiley.

I think 8x8 is standard (?) but I've been wondering that, too.  Also, cotton can shrink in the wash...

Isn't this also part of the reason that private swaps exist?  Private swaps allow you to hand pick your swapping partner and you're more guaranteed to get something that you will like.

Also, Craftster has it genuisely set up to where you can find all the posts made by any member, right?  If you're paired up with someone who has debatable craftiness, then I'm sure that will affect your decisions on what to swap with them and how much effort you'll put in.

Part of the joy of crafting, for me, at least, is putting my time and energy into something that I can give to someone that's a piece of me, you know?  Presents are presents.

I am always encouraged by how well everyone seems to get along here, and how encouraging everyone is to people branching out in new crafts.. I'm sure Piccaso painted lots of paintings before he became famous.

However, that being said...

As a new swapper, all this debate makes me nervous--I am getting ready to participate in my first swap and of course it's scary to think about someone not liking what I've made for them.

You can also keep an eye on half.com.  I buy most of my books there at really reduced prices.  AND, if they don't have a title you need, you can wishlist it and they'll email you as soon as it's available.  I've saved a ton buying most of my knitting books there.

you can make the relaxation "pillow" very easily! you can get two pieces of fabric, sew together on three sides (i sew the right sides together here so i can flip it out and hide the stitches), fill with either any type of dried beans or rice (i hear basmati rice works really well, but i haven't tried it), and then add a tablespoon of dried lavender flowers.  once it's mostly filled, you'll want to sew up that fourth end, and you're done!

you should be able to find lavender flowers at health food stores in their bulk dried herb aisle.  the last time i bought any,  the flowers were about $30/lb, but even if you get more than you need, it shouldn't be anymore than a dollar or so.

to use, you can warm the bag in the microwave for a minute at a time.  once it heats up, you can place it anywhere to help destress and relieve tension!
