1  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Advice on nursing tops on: February 09, 2008 06:42:42 PM
So I am due to give birth in 10 weeks and I have been thinking a lot about what would be most comfortable to wear while breast feeding. I don't have a lot of money to buy nursing tops - but I do have A LOT of fabric.  Grin I have been thinking some pretty smocks with button straps would be a good idea but I wanted to get some more ideas and hear if anyone else sewed themselves a bunch of nursing tops. I'm pretty lucky that the babe is coming in the Spring and it will be summer when I am out and about with him/her and wanting something decent to wear when I am nursing.

Suggestions? Patterns you may have used?
2  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Party Planning / Halloween Dinner Party on: September 13, 2006 12:54:13 PM
This year I am attempting to do something new. I've kind of gotten past the get dressed and and get drunk in someones kitchen Halloween party phase and this year I plan on having a dinner party for about 10 people (this will include my husband and I).

So far my only ideas are to make lots of Halloween-themed food and tell everyone to research and prepare a ghost story to share. I'm not sure if I am going to ask people to dress up - I have been thinking that if I do I will only ask them to dress up as though they were going to a 1930s dinner party, sort of an literary happening/Algonquin Round Table feel to it because we will be reading ghost stories. I figured reading would be better than sitting around and watching a movie because then we will be interacting with each other. Also, I'm a write and even though I don't usually write ghost stories now would be a good time to start.

Any suggestions for decorations or food?
3  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Simplicity 4072 on: July 23, 2006 04:42:08 PM
Hopefully this pattern hasn't already been discussed.

I have two questions about it:
1) Has anyone made this dress and how did it go (did it fit well, would you use a different size next time etc...)
2) I'm looking for the fabric they used for the velvet trimmed version - does anyone know where I can get this? (if this is off-topic let me know and I will post it else where)
4  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / Recipie for Shaving Cream? on: June 05, 2006 09:05:10 AM
Has anyone ever made their own shaving cream? I checked and I didn't see a thread for this so I thought I would ask. I would really like to make the majority of my own beauty products because I hate how crazy the mark-up is and how wasteful the packaging is. I'm to vain to stop shaving though (I have VERY dark hair) so I think this is the best possible solution. Wink
Any and all suggestions will be appreciated.
5  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / First quilt: Maritime themed baby quilt on: June 05, 2006 08:21:35 AM
I made this baby quilt last summer for my sister's youngest boy. They moved to New Brunswick a couple of years ago so she calls him her Maritime Baby.

It might not be noticeable but the red squares actually have white polkadots in them. This quilt is a little more traditional than what I would make for myself but my sister really liked it. In fact, she hung it on the baby's wall instead of letting him use it even though I begged her not to (I like functional art).

I'm hoping to make more quilts this summer.
6  California / California: Central / Any craft shows in SF or Berkeley in October? on: October 03, 2005 12:34:21 PM
I'm going to be in the Berkeley & SF area on the weekend of Oct. 21st and I was wondering if there were any craft/art shows going on? I'm up for any and all cool suggestions that may or may not be craft related.

7  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Discussion and Questions / Wedding Invitations on: February 16, 2004 09:30:21 AM
I'm new so I don't know if there is a thread for this yet but I am trying to do something creative with my wedding invitations and I have tried a couple of ideas but I guess I have crafters block.  Any suggestions?  No doves, wedding bells, or "today I marry my best friend" sentiments. Wink
