11  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Cute Quick Gift- Knitting Needle Bouquet!- mini tutorial on: October 17, 2006 07:50:01 AM
I had about an hour to come up with & make a gift for my friend who we were meeting for dinner that night.  This is what I came up with- A bouquet made out of knitting needles!  She knits too so it's not only cute, it's practical!

Step 1: I used felt and fabric scraps to cut out flower shapes, sewed them together with a simple knot in the center & hot glued a button to each, then hot glued the flower to the top of some spare knitting needles I had lying around.

Step 2: I found a pretty glass vase to put the needles in.

Step 3: I used a needle & thread to string some individually wrapped candy together & hand arount the needles.  The vase was too thin to fill it with candy.  The candy I used was Japanese candies from the Korean grocery store by my house.  I took care in making sure it was all vegan for my friend.

Step 4: I tied a ribbon around the vase, punched a hole in the envelope & tied the card to the ribbon.

Voila, a quick & easy gift!  It was a big hit at the party as well.  : )

12  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / My first painting ~ birdie on: October 05, 2006 08:52:36 AM
This was my first attempt at painting (well, i don't count 7th grade art class) Wink...  I used acrylic on canvas.  The pic isn't the greatest & you can't really tell but I added glitter to the pink in the big bird & on the 'shooting stars' in the sky.  So am i on my way to being an Ar-teest?  Tongue

i really had a lot of fun doing this & i can't wait to paint again!
13  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Baby Showers And Gifts For New Babies / our version of the diaper cake... on: September 15, 2006 06:35:41 AM
I saw everyone's adorable diaper cakes on here the other day and my friend & I decided to make one up for our mommy*to*be friend. I just wanted to share how it came out!

and here are a few detailed shots:

a few notes on our technique.
*we bought a cardboard cake base from Michael's to rest it on.
*we folded the ends for each diaper in a little & used size 2 for the bottom layer and size 1 for the top two.
*the ribbon pretty much holds it all together and also serves as the hanger for all the goodies we put on it.

i hope she likes it!

i finally got started on my wedding scrapbook (i only got married a year + a half ago!).  It's about time.   Tongue  Anyways, I started with making a spread for each table.  Every table was named after a flower fairy.  Here are the spreads I've completed so far.  Each has a pocket where I am going to right little notes about the people at each table.

18  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Scrapbooking: Completed Projects / Weekly Scrapbooking Nite- First project = Animals!- Lots of pictures on: February 08, 2006 09:53:06 AM
So my best friend & i love scrapbooking so much we've decided to get together every Thursday nite to scrapbook.  We've been doing it for about a month now & it is oh so much fun.  We are each working on animal scrapbooks, mine is the zoo and hers is her pets.  Here are some of the pages of done so far.  I hope you enjoy & maybe get some ideas for your own pages!  (Sorry about the picture quality, I'm still trying to get the best lighting for my pics in my new basement)...

and this is the cover.  it's my favorite part of the whole book!  i think it sets the theme & makes it cute.
19  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Completed Projects / Runner thingee to protect dresser on: January 09, 2006 12:05:25 PM
I decided to make a runner to protect our dresser from the tv/vcr/dvd player.  Long ago, my mother spent hours stripping down the dresser & staining it so i want to keep it as nice as possible.  It is probably the nicest piece of furniture I have!  Anyways, I used to just have a pacman sheet as a protector but I just moved into my first house so i wanted something a little nicer and here is what I did....

I took an old curtain, folded it in half, turned it inside out & sewed down it lengthwise.  Then i trimmed it to the length I wanted, pinned the ends (I tapered them in a bit).  I also pinned in the beads (they were the kind you get in the craft store that are attached to a ribbon & you can sew them on lamps).  Then I hand sewed the ends with green thread (my room is blue/green/purple).  I also embroidered a little design in the corner to give it some flare.

you likes??

20  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / the Story of Us Book on: October 07, 2005 11:00:38 AM
I'm not sure if this is really considered a book, journal or a scrapbook so I'm posting this under general papercrafts.  My one year wedding anniversary is coming up & this gift is supposed to be paper so this is what I came up with.  (along with sneaking him off to a bed and breakfast in VT with the weekend....but shh! he doesn't know this yet!).

I found this blank spiral bound book at AC Moore and i decoupaged the cover:

Then I wrote a little story about how we met and our last five years 2gether.  every other page is an illustration.  It's kinda set up like a fairy tale.  At the end, i made 10 coupons for various things like a "nite out to the movies".  I'm not even 1/2way done yet.  I hope i can finish it on time, it's 70 pages!  Here are a few pages i completed...

On this page I used some left over stained glass paint for the trees.  It gave some texture and a glossy finish.  The rest is just color pencil and marker.

On this page, i used my handy dandy light box for the skyline (i traced a photo i took) and the library symbol.

What does everyone think?  I'll have to post up more pics as I finish them.   Smiley
