21  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: Random Artist Trading Card Swap Gallery!!! on: October 18, 2005 07:43:51 AM
Oh, Erin = me. I may have forgotten to write my username on some of them, but the others I wrote it on the paper I wrapped aroud the ATCs because I was paranoid that they'd get damaged in the mail. The post office recently returned a bill to me that was shredded to bits. Of course, that made it late. Meh, I'm not on good terms w/ the post office right now.

But! I digress, I'm glad you got it and like it. You're very welcome.

23  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Re: Pattern (Butterick 4443) Help? on: October 14, 2005 09:14:49 PM
The psuedo dart thing was just from when I basted it, to see if it would work, so it was easy enough to remove.

I clipped the curve and it looks pretty good. I might have to add something at the top of the dress to keep it closer to my chest. I don't quite fill it, but that doesn't surprise me.

I think I can manage from here, thank you *so* much for your help!

There are also certain types of paints that are made specifically for kids that peel off. You know, so they don't make a mess. I don't believe I've seen silver in the colors they carry and I'm totally blanking on the name. I'll check at work on Sunday.

I would try a spray bottle and, if you have some scraps of fabric around, just test it on those. Start with concentrated bleach and if you don't like it, maybe dilute it a bit. The spray bottle also might not give you the right effect, so you'll have a chance to figure that out, too.

Hm, well I didn't try clipping the curve. The bodice looked mutated both ways. There was a psuedo dart-thing going on that I didn't intentionally sew in, I guess it just happened. However, the dart was on the side panel and it just looked and fitted very wrong.

So, do you clip the seam allowance before you cut?

Tulle always gives me a hard time too. What are you sewing the tulle onto? The onesie?

If your feathers are the really fluffy kind, I'd glue them on. If they're the stiffer kind, maybe try to sew down the shaft of the feather?

Good luck with this, it sounds so pretty!
28  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Pattern (Butterick 4443) Help? on: October 14, 2005 07:39:58 PM
I'm sewing with Butterick pattern 4443, here's the link:

I'm making dress "A", which would be the one in the bottom left in that picture, the floral strapless one.

I'm making the bodice part out of black satin, and it is interfaced and such as the pattern directs. I'm at step 4 (not very far, yikes!) and I'm quite confused. I'm sewing the 2 front sides to the front center. I've scanned in the step and the picture. I guess the part that confuses me is where it talks about "clipping bodice front as necessary." I've pinned numerous times, and if I match the notches, it bulges. I've tried basting once, and it just looked mutated.  Undecided  Luckily it was just basting. If I do have to clip it, how and where do they mean? I've never ran into anything like this before.

The first picture is what the center front piece looks like, the second is the step, and its illustration.

Any ideas and suggestions would be great!

30  HOME SWEET HOME / Pet-Related Crafts: Completed Projects / Re: Hammock for my rats! on: October 12, 2005 10:54:41 AM
What a great idea! My boyfriend is getting 2 rats soon and I could definitely make them a hammock.

Your rat is adorable, by the way!
