I've never made them before BUT it looks like pieces of wood with 2 holes drilled in the side. Then it looks like they placed small pictures on the wood and then shellacked them. I would guess that they used a stretchy elastic type string to put them together ... very simple pattern of wood, bead, wood, bead etc then tie and wear.

I like the fact that you could imitate the christian pics or replace with family pics, pet pics, travel pics ... it is endless really!
What a great idea for a gift ... hmmmmmmmmm ... I think I am going to see if I can try to find those wood pieces!

alwaysinmyroom.  looks like you had the same bad luck as I.lol.  Mine made great sauce for pasta. I like the added water cause my ground meat is so dry.

I would suggest using more onions rather than water ... they usually make the meat less dry and more flavorful. In Chile the recipe is usually mostly onion to a handful of meat but that is not how I like it but you may want to try adding a few more onions and the water from there will make it moist. We also use garlic in ours which I hadn't noticed til now that it is not included in your recipe. Hot sauce is also an option ... also not my preference but some people like them with some kick! Smiley
Like some other posters I have put the meat and then some cheese on it ... yummy! My daughter will only eat it like this.

I did have one question:  when you cook the meat with the onions do you drain off the extra fat and water?  I did because it looked too runny--I used 85% lean meat so maybe it was too fat?

I noticed the original recipe posted had water but I have never used water in my recipe, nor has my mom who taught it to me. I drain most of it but leave just enough so it isn't dry when you put it together in the end. This is also the reason that we make the filling the day before ... and put it in the fridge, so that whatever fat you leave in goes a bit solid and doesn't try to run out when you put it together.
Also I even use the fattiest meat which is the "regular" and draining helps. I have used the lean ones before but for some reason something to me is lost in the taste when the fat isn't there when it cooks. Let it sit in a strainer and drip a bit ... don't shove the juices out by pushing on the meat. That usually leaves just the right amount.

My friend had the same confusion with the LARD when I passed the link to her ... when you say lard it is shortening, right? That is what I use in mine ... and from the previous posts ... I don't think that oil would be a proper substitute for it.

Before I would make separate ones ... no raisins in some, no olives in others etc etc ... now, forget it! I make them with everything in there and it's a take it or leave it deal ... and no one has left it so far! I love the raisins in there ... my mom uses the dark ones but try the light coloured raisins ... yummmmmmmmmmmmmy!
