841  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Other Image Reproduction Techniques: Discussion and Questions / You know you are a stamp carver when....... on: January 05, 2010 08:36:27 AM
-  you start to like the smell of vinyl being carved
-  you find stamp shreds everywhere!
-  you rescue used, "unloved" erasers, and turn them into mini art pieces
-  you have way too many erasers in your stash
-  you like your cuticle remover!
-  you don't know how to use photoshop, except to make stampable images

Edit:  Quick question:  Anyone have a good inkpad brand to recommend?  I've been using office type inkpads, and the not so intense color is driving me up the wall!
842  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / Re: Capsule Toy balls? on: November 17, 2009 06:20:53 PM
Nice.  I think I'd do that.  I had several in my freezer, holding catnip and stuff.

So, yeah, I'm a big fan of capsule toys.  (I have a Totoro plushie from one of them sitting in my purse right now, and my girlfriend has the catbus one from another machine.)  Problem is, I don't know what to do with these little plastic capsules.  They are bigger than your average cat toy and have some holes in the bottom of them.

What do you guys suggest?  I have about a dozen of them - I've given some away as cat toys with some catnip stuffed inside...and those are rather successful.

The capsules are generally clear plastic "eggs" that open.  Some have holes in one end, and some have threads to screw into the other half.

Silent Hill - I pulled this from a couple of versions of the mask/outfit.  It's not from the actual movie (that mask was longer and darker).

Love the makeup and the headtails - how did you pull those off?   Shocked
846  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Re: "Take Chances, Make Mistakes, Get Messy!" Miss Frizzle! [img heavy] on: November 01, 2009 09:28:01 PM
Truly awesome!  As soon as I saw the quote, I almost screamed - it's Miss Frizzle!  Even in high school, I would find myself watching that show...terribly entertaining it was...!

Helm:  Foam board + cardboard at the back.  Bits and bobs are water bottles and other things.

Apron/Shirt:  Shirt is repurposed tee shirt with tea stains and acyrlic paint as the bloodstains.  (Large red handprint on the back of the shirt.)  Apron is broadcloth distressed with dirt and tea.  Same blood stains.

Gauze:  medical gauze soaked with fake blood (corn syrup, chocolate syrup, food coloring) and dried again.

Pants:  plain black pants.

This was fun to wear, plus I had a lot of fun making it!  Cheesy  The helm took all summer to design (maybe about 1 month), and the apron and shirt took me about 1 day to repurpose.  The next challenge is making the great knife (oversized meat cleaver) that the character carries.

Too bad a lot of college kids didn't play the game...

Hope I could help - or you could do Han Solo.  (White long sleeved shirt, blue vest, black pants and a blaster pistol)

Nice, and it doesn't reveal much skin.  I approve!

I'd be doing Pyramid Head this year, and I'm stoked to see different costumes this year...and I hope to bump into someone doing SH nurses - not the standard sexy nurse!

The Vader iron lung thing?  Take a black tee shirt, paint the boxes (or use cereal boxes), and glow in the dark paint to create the switches.

Would be great paired with a thing of black pants.
