2  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / yarn shop in/near Basingstoke? on: October 06, 2006 06:57:19 AM
My boyfriend's parents recently moved from the States to Basingstoke in England.  I'd like to ask them to send me some yarn or pattern books from near where they live.  (I daydream about wholesale price Rowan Yarn).  Does anyone know of any yarn shops near Basingstoke that I could ask them to check out for me?

thank you so much!

9  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Florentine Hobo Gloves on: July 21, 2006 11:00:50 AM
My brother just got back from Italy.  He brought gifts for everyone, naturally, but what he got me was so awesome, my knitting friends are entirely jealous.  He brought me yarn.  Beautiful, variegated wool from Florence.  And he didn't just get me one skein.  He very thoughtfully brought me 4 skeins: 2 yellowish and 2 purplish.  They go so well together too.  Such taste he has!

When my brother got back from his trip, I was in a project rut.  I had tons of drive to knit, but no inspiration. I had gone through my stash, searching for some spark of an idea; I had gotten out a mountain of pattern books from the library, but it was all to no avail.

Then my brother brought this beautiful yarn, and it all came back to me in a flash.
I made fingerless gloves from the pattern in Weekend Knitting to replace the ones an ex-boyfriend had borrowed and lost years ago.  Those had been basic black, these would be funky and colorful, and very special.

My Florentine hobo gloves , I love them!
