1  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Embroidered Denim Tote on: February 06, 2008 06:23:34 PM
I made this bag from a pair of Men's Jeans (size 34 I think) I found at Goodwill... They looked like they'd never been worn and I loved the wash of the denim, so I decided to cut them up and make a tote bag out of them!

The inspiration for the side pockets came from the Pleatness tutorial, which can be found at this link: https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=178244.0

I got the lining fabric from Joann's. I loved the polka dots. It also has little silver dots that sparkle, but you can't really tell from the picture... Sad.

The lining is a little baggy, but I love it just the same.  Cheesy
It was my first time using interfacing, and I won't make another bag without it! It makes a huge difference. I also used really heavy interfacing for the bottom, which helps it keep its shape. I do wish I'd put more pocketage inside (I've got better plans for another bag...)

Since I liked the lining so much, I thought I would continue the design on the front, with a few embroidered circles of the same colors. Very simple running stitch (I got impatient... haha.)

All in all, it's not perfect, but it works for me and I love it. It was also my first time making this type of bag, with a gusset. I didn't use a pattern, but this tutorial (https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=2684.0) helped me a TON with the gusset part. I couldn't have done it without it... And it's my first post with pictures, so I hope this turns out well... *crosses fingers* Comments and Criticism are very welcome.
