13  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Re: "_____ in a box" gift ideas. on: May 30, 2007 01:14:08 PM
So while it was not really crafty, the other week I did "Law School in a Box" for my bf who is starting this fall... it included:

- a book about what you need to know you for law school (called Law School Confidential or something)
- some DVDs to get him in the mood ("The Firm" and "The Paper Chase" which apparently is a classic); basically any John Grisham novel or DVD will do
- pens, pencils, and highlighters with little flag thingies! These were a great deal because I got them free after rebate at staples!
- for when he needs a break, a bunch of fruit bars
- also, a new pair of slippers to relax in
- and last but not least, a wallet/money clip thing for when he makes the big bucks

It was quite a success! Of course now that are anniv is coming up, my creative juices have run out...
14  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Scrapbooking: Discussion and Questions / photobooks as scrapbooks? on: May 08, 2007 07:16:02 AM
I've seen a lot of posts on digital scrapbooking and using photoshop, etc. But I am wondering if anyone has tried any of the photo sites that you can create photobooks with like shutterfly, snapfish, kodak, etc.

I just made a photobook with snapfish but it is pretty basic, just pictures. I've seen some other sites have templates, etc that give it more of a scrapbook feel. Does anyone have a favorite or seen one they'd really like to try?

Thanks!
15  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Mother's Day / Re: I am ready for Mother's Day! on: May 08, 2007 06:28:34 AM
Great job!
I came across a pattern for those lillies not so long ago and thought I might give them a try.  Are they difficult?

No they were very easy. The stem is all i-cord and the flower part is just increasing and decreasing. I would've made more but I only had so many colors of feltable yarn!

It is always hard to find something for my mom! She doesn't really have a lot of hobbies, doesn't need any clothes, I gave flowers one year and that was a disaster (snail incident) and she's across the country so I can't take her out for lunch. I knit but she's not one for shawls and it's too warm in CA for hats, gloves etc. I think everyone on here thinks their mom is difficult. Somehow I always manage to find something... plus this year we are going on vacation so I will actually be with her for Mother's Day... I can't show up empty handed! So here we go...

1. First off, my family takes lots of vacas and I have all the pictures which I hold hostage basically until the next trip. I decided this year to make a photobook of all the pictures from last year's trip! I don't have a pic of this because I did it online but I recommend this for all mom's!

2. Every since the live flower/snail incident, I've stuck with the fake flowers (they last longer  Wink). This year I did some felted ones.

It is a pattern from PickUpSticks that i got at a LYS.

3. My mom is completely infatuated with Josh Groban ever since seeing him in concert. She has all the CDs/DVDs so I thought she'd get a kick out of this t-shirt I stenciled!

T-shirt on the left, stencil on the right. I doubt she'll wear it to the mall but maybe as a bed shirt. (ps thanks to all the craftster tutes on stenciling!)

Ok so that's it... more info on the blogs below. I hope this inspires someone to make something for their mom!
