1  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Two Wristlets for Fall 2017 on: September 22, 2017 03:30:08 AM
Instead of lugging a purse, sometimes all I really need is my phone, ID, cash and favourite tube of lip balm Roll Eyes
I've been searching for suitable wristlets to purchase...ones which are large enough to accommodate the size of my phone.
Nope, no luck.  On to Plan B!
After digging through my stash of fabric scraps and drafting a couple of patterns, I came up with two wristlets.

The first one has a strap that is attached to a swivel hook.  The swivel hook clips onto the split key ring that is connected to the main body of the wristlet.
In a pinch, I can remove the strap and throw the zip pouch into my regular purse.

The second one has a zip gusset in the back for my phone (for easy access).
It is roomier than the first wristlet and can hold a few more items (if I need them).

Thanks for checking them out Cheesy

3  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Wee Kindness Monsters! on: September 08, 2017 02:10:29 AM

Be silly!  Be honest!  Be kind!
This mantra was in my mind as I knitted a batch of kindness monsters for the art abandonment swap.
I wanted to spread positivity in my art abandonment pieces, and I hope this does the trick!
Here's a link to the pattern I used for the monsters: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/a-little-kindness-monster
The original instructions call for worsted yarn, but I figured itty bitty was the way to go Wink
Each monster has its own fun personality, and it was a hoot to see them develop.

Amlie - She loves creating banners and all things crafty...and yes!  Buttons!!!

Casper - Candy corn beanie dude who tries to look cool while secretly coveting all things Halloween and of course, candy!!!

Peyton - Kite flying enthusiast who has a passion for blue skies and spreading positive vibes.

Joss - Who doesn't love micro glitter and sparkle?  It's the gift that keeps giving... Tongue

Maxine - She's a bit of a feminist who has no compunction when it comes to speaking her mind Wink

Chase - Adventurous parachute adrenaline junkie who is happiest when he's in flight.

And if you've made it this far, here's a picture of another wip wee monster to give you an idea of size Smiley

5  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Spam Musubi (non-edible) on: April 01, 2016 02:03:42 AM

While on vacation in Oahu last month, we noticed that spam musubi was available...everywhere.
It consists of a slice of cooked spam on top a block of rice, bundled together with toasted seaweed.  Yummy!
The above spam musubi is not meant for consumption.  It's actually a prototype of something I am planning to make for my friends...as a memento of our crazy holidays Wink
After some thought, I came up with spam musubi hot & cold therapy packs Grin  Quirky and functional.  And most importantly, easy to construct.  After the pattern pieces were created, I decided on anti-pill fleece fabric for the spam and rice component coverings.  The nori wrap is made with some black silky fabric I had in my stash.

Deconstructed, we have the rice block (with flax seed pack insert), slice of spam (with cold pack insert), and toasted nori (with Velcro fasteners to hold everything together).

Close-up of 'rice' cover and flax seed pack:

And if you've never tried this flavor of spam, you should.  Just for bragging rights! Wink

Now, lets talk about the size of the mini tin.  We will use the dimensions of a mini altoid tin as a guide, i.e. your mini tin should measure approximately 1.5 by 2.25.  Feel free to use your creativity and whatever method you like to make the mini altered tin fabulous!  Do your best work Cheesy  Looking for inspiration?  There are numerous examples (Pinterest is a good resource for eye candy!) of what may be done with altoid tins in general, and yes, there are even examples of altered mini tins to be found online.  Ah, the possibilities!

8  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Mini altered tin swap? on: March 24, 2014 01:52:45 PM
Anyone up for a round of mini altered tins?  The large tins are fun...but anything on a small scale is uber adorable! Wink

These adorable mini altoid tins measure approximately 1.5" by 2.25" and *gasp* have a nice flat surface...perfectly suited for whatever we have in mind Grin

As for themes, I am open to suggestions.  Or we could list our top three favourite themes in swap questionnaires and have our partners go at it Smiley
9  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Lacroix Sisters (conjoined twins) - Too many pics :P on: August 12, 2013 10:49:52 AM
These modified dolls were sent to my swap partner in the sideshow swap Cheesy
I don't usually do much with dolls, but I really had a fun time with this one!
It was a bit of a challenge (for me anyhow...) to sew the tiny dresses (erm, yeah...the dolls measure a little over 5" in height) but I'm pleased with the end result!

This is the story of Chloe Mae and Verity Mae, collectively known as the Lacroix sisters.  Abandoned at birth, the girls were adopted by a troupe of kind-hearted sideshow oddities, who instantly recognized that the girls needed to be around people who loved them for who they are.  The tattooed lady (Mama Tat to the girls) took on the maternal role and made sure the girls were well cared for.  During their formative years, it was a common sight to see the girls running barefoot around the compound and making frequent stops to visit with their various uncles and aunts (they loved watching everyone get ready for evening shows).  More often than not, the girls would go home with bits of trinkets and sweet treats it was pretty dang impossible not to spoil them!  When they turned eighteen, Mama Tat made good her promise to them.  The girls have always desired to be a true part of the troupe.  So now, they have their own show The Kissing Booth!  Step right up!  Step right up!  For a mere 50 pence, youll be rewarded with kisses from the Lacroix sisters!

The Kissing Booth, constructed by Uncle "Strongman" Hercules:

And having lived with Mama Tat all their life, it's natural for them to want their own tattoos!
