2  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Scrappy traveler's journal cover, notebook inserts, etc. on: April 30, 2019 05:02:15 AM
In preparation for my upcoming travels, I wanted some sort of journal to keep track of things.
Enamored by the traveler's journal flexible style of being able to combine different notebook inserts and pockets, I set out to make a scrappy fabric cover.
It was fun raiding my stash of fabric scraps for choice bits (pdx carpet fabric!!!).  I already had the right interfacing., gromets, etc. I needed for my project.  The only thing I purchased was the black elastic cording  Roll Eyes

Here's the completed front cover.  And yes, there's a clip on charm as well!  I will probably make/add other charms later because they're fun to make.

Back view of cover...

Folder insert for storing papery bits that I might save during my travels.

Covers of some of the notebook inserts I assembled (everything came from my stash).

View of inside pages of one of the notebook inserts.

One more notebook insert...

Thanks for checking out my project! Smiley

Details of swap:
(much love to the fab organizers of previous rounds - SonjaBoo, Smmarrt and LimerRiot Kiss)

For this swap, youll decorate an envelope (something around a 6"x9"ish) in the way of your choice paint it, mix-media it up, add fabric, whatever inspires you. (Psst...don't forget you need to leave white spots or labels for your addresses!)
In the envelope, youll include five (5) small but handmade (or hand-altered) embellishments or crafting doo-dads for your partner to enjoy.
Extras are not necessary, but feel free to chat with your partner if you want to send more than the minimum requirement of five (5) small items.

What are crafting doo-dads, you ask?
Handmade stickers, cards, altered tags, crafty ephemera, glue stencils, inchies, altered paperclips, ATCs, hand-cut stencils, paper feathers, paper flowers, altered buttons, etc.  Many other ideas not even mentioned here!  Use your imagination...as long as someone can craft with it and you made it, it's good.

4  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Travelers Journal Swap? on: April 04, 2019 10:58:23 AM
I've been checking out various options for a travel journal for my summer/fall adventures and decided that a travelers journal would be perfect!

The notebook inserts and accessories like pockets, envelopes, pen holder, etc. would make it easy to customize the journal for each trip.

What's more fun than making one for myself?  Duh!  Swapping with a like minded individual for one! Cheesy

Is there any interest in swapping for handmade journal covers, notebooks, accessories, etc.?

Let's talk about this! Smiley

5  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Happy Mail #5? on: April 04, 2019 10:42:59 AM
I've enjoyed previous rounds of the happy mail swap and miss sending (and receiving!) fun, fab bits of happy in the mail Cheesy

The last round was a little over a year ago, so it seems like it's a good time for another go at it.

It's a low pressure swap with the requirement of sending 5 handmade or altered goodies in a decorated envelope for your partner.

Need inspiration on what was sent in previous rounds?  Here ya go!

6  CRAFTING FOR GOOD AND NOT EVIL / Random Acts of Kindness (RAOK) and Art Abandonment / Small Bits Of Positivity on: February 17, 2019 08:37:36 PM
Happy National Random Acts of Kindness Day to my Craftster peeps! Cheesy

To celebrate, I made a bunch of mini cards (each measuring ~ 1.25" by 1.75") with positive messages on them.
The background for each card is pieced with tiny strips of scrapbook paper that I have accumulated from various projects.
While I can't say it has made much of a dent in my scrap paper bin, it is such a fun way to use some of the choice bits and bobs Grin
After I was done with adding other decorative bits and text, I sealed each card with paper glaze (it's what I had on hand...) to make sure everything stayed put.
For this round, I opted to use the following messages for the cards:
- be the change
- dwell in gratitude
- be strong and take heart
- you are beautiful
- be amazing
- you are special

Because these mini cards are super colorful, I decided to go with a simple black/white scheme for the packaging.
There wasn't room to include a note about the cards on the front, so I wrote messages on the back.

And here they are, all ready to be dropped off.

Actually, some of these have already been dropped off in various areas in my neighborhood today Smiley
I really hope someone finds a smidge of joy and encouragement when they need it!
Thanks for checking out my project.

7  CRAFTING FOR GOOD AND NOT EVIL / Random Acts of Kindness (RAOK) and Art Abandonment / Stamped Tags With Positive Thoughts on: January 27, 2019 03:05:08 AM
I finally found time this week to play around with the metal stamps I acquired before the holidays Cheesy
For my first project, I decided to start with something simple - stamped tags!
One of my resolutions for 2019 is to focus on positive thoughts...so with that in mind, here's what I came up with

Not the best photo, I suppose Tongue  In case anyone has issues seeing the words, the tags were stamped with
- i am enough
- choose joy
- you got this
- be you tiful
- live free

Since my plan is to share these tags with whoever finds them, I attached them to colorful cards to help them find new homes.

Here's a close-up of one of the tags, all ready to be abandoned Smiley
I will be dropping them off in random spots this week.
Hopefully, they will brighten someone's day.

8  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / AFF's Smoking Monkey in TBBT on: March 12, 2018 03:42:53 AM
The Big Bang Theory fans might remember the episode where Amy Farrah Fowler brings home a smoking monkey who is part of a nicotine addiction study.

When my swap partner listed AFF and her smoking monkey as one of her faves, I knew I had to make this for her!
The smoking monkey on TBBT doesn't wear a lab coat...but I thought it was appropriate Grin

DETAILS OF SWAP:
It has been ages since we've had a matchbox swap!
What's better than sending/receiving one matchbox for the holidays?
Two matchboxes!!! Cheesy

Matchbox #1 (i.e. the altered matchbox) could be...
- a holiday ornament (free standing or with a loop for hanging)?
- holiday themed artwork?
- a mini shrine?
- anything your heart desires...as long as it involves altering a matchbox in some form!

Matchbox #2 (i.e. the mystery matchbox) could contain...
- a bunch of whimisies?
- an inflatable rubber duckie? :Cheesy
- cookies? candy? cash?? (kidding, just kidding...unless you really want to do that)
- anything your heart desires...as long as it fits in the matchbox!

For this swap, swappers will be sending just 2 matchboxes to their partners...no extras, please.
The mystery matchbox doesn't have to be decorated...it can be wrapped up as a gift for your partner to unwrap...or left unadorned.
You may use commercially produced standard sized matchboxes or opt to make your own matchboxes.
