11  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Stenciling: Completed Projects / Bono bag on: March 20, 2006 06:38:54 PM
This is a bag I made for my friend Ann, a *crazy* U2 fan, for Christmas. I'm just now getting it up because I wanted to post it with a Buffy bag I made for another friend, but the Buffy bag picture mysteriously disappeared from my camera, and I've been waiting for my friend to send me a picture, and it has yet to arrive, so I decided to go ahead and post Bono by himself. But I digress.

Anyway, here's Bono:

Hope you all like him.

13  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Cozy wristwarmers on: January 31, 2006 06:13:09 PM
These are some wristwarmers that I actually finished a long time ago but am just now getting around to actually putting into use:

They're from my own design - panels of stockinette in the middle and ribbing on the sides. They're not perfect (that bit around the wrist is supposed to be a ruffle, but I forgot to do the decreases in pattern for stockinette - duh - and the seaming leaves a lot to be desired), but overall I am happy with them. They are very warm, despite being made of cheapo acrylic I found in a box of stuff a colleague was giving away. And the flowers are cheery Smiley.

P.S. If the angle of the picture seems odd, it's because it was a vertical shot and the computer made it horizontal. I didn't realize I'd forgotten to correct it until it was already uploaded, and I'm too lazy to go fix it. Smiley
14  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Stenciling: Completed Projects / John Lennon bag on: December 10, 2005 07:41:56 AM
I posted this once, but it was one of the things that went poof (poor Leah - I'm sure that was enormously stress-inducing). Anyway, here is a John Lennon bag I made on the anniversary of his death, which was also a snow day for me:

What do you guys think?

16  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Stenciling: Completed Projects / Tattoo bag - my first stencil post! on: November 28, 2005 08:07:21 PM
I recently decided to give stenciling a try, and I am now thoroughly hooked Wink. The first two projects I did were for swaps, so I don't want to post them yet, but here's the first one I did for myself:

I made the stencil in Powerpoint using clip art and auto shapes. I filled in most of the design with the stencil and then added some of the detail work by hand. I hate that there's a little black smudge on the left, but it's less obvious on the bag than it is in the picture, and I don't know what there is to be done about it, anyway. In case you're wondering, Jason is my boyfriend Wink.

Thanks for looking. Any input is welcome.

P.S. This is the first time I've gotten the rackin'-frackin' picture feature to work. Yay, me!
17  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Stenciling: Discussion and Questions / Making stencils stick on: November 20, 2005 05:59:06 PM
Howdy, y'all -

I just did my first stencilling project today (yay!), and while I am pretty pleased with it overall, I had a question about getting the stencils to stick. I made a stencil from cardstock and used spray adhesive to stick it to the tote bag I was stencilling, with limited success. I thought it might work better if I sprayed the bag, too, but that didn't seem to make any difference. The design came out more or less all right, but I got a good bit of bleeding and had to do some creative embellishing to fix it. Am I doing something wrong? Using too much adhesive? Not enough? Does the fact that I was using a cavas tote bag rather than a t-shirt make a difference? Please, craftistas, help me make my stencils stick! Wink

18  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Veronica Mars swap on: November 11, 2005 04:19:12 PM
Is anyone here as obsessed with Veronica Mars as I am? Anybody up for a swap? I have some time off over the holidays, so I thought I could set that as the sigh up period and crafting/sending could happen after New Year's. Thoughts?

19  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Hell's Grannies on: November 03, 2005 06:22:51 AM
I'm on a listserv where someone recently posted the trascript of a Monty Python skit called Hell's Grannies about gangs of hoodlum grannies terrorizing Britain (there's a long story about why this was posted, but I won't bore you with that). Anyway, this part struck me as especially funny:

Fourth Young Man: Oh well we sometimes feel we're to blame in some way for
what our gran's become. I mean she used to be happy here until she, she
started on the crochet.
Reporter: (off-screen) Crochet?
Fourth Young Man: Yeah. Now she can't do without it. Twenty balls of wool a
day, sometimes. If she can't get the wool she gets violent. What can we do
about it?

20  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Beads: Completed Projects / Wonder Woman cuff on: October 20, 2005 04:50:17 PM
A while back, I saw a superhero swap posted in the swap forum, but I hadn't been in Craftster long enough to participate. Nonetheless, I was inspired to create a Wonder Woman beaded cuff. I still can't get this rackin-frackin picture-posting thing down, and the pictures don't really show off the bracelet's sparkle, but here are links to some anyway:

On my wrist:

Sadly, it is not bulletproof.
