1  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / Montessori By Hand Gnome Messenger Bag on: April 22, 2008 03:10:55 PM
Have any of you used this pattern?

I could not quite understand the zipper pocket instructions and had to change my needle to a fatty upholstery needle to get through the layers of fabrics. I loved how mine turned out, but it sure was rough on my poor little machine.
2  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Market Bags on: April 22, 2008 03:06:04 PM
I've got a boutique coming up next weekend. These are some of the Market Bags I am going to offer. They are HUGE. 19"x18 1/2"x4". As you see the ties can make them smaller if you have a lighter load. They are made from a cotton/linen blend with a 100% cotton lining.

I also made a few over the shoulder totes::

And... a bunch of variations of this tote, but I'll only show you one.

What do you think?
3  UNITED STATES / Utah / Fabulous New Yarn Store on: March 25, 2008 02:26:56 PM
Hey Utahans!

I just wanted to let you know about a new yarn store that has opened at 8621 S. Highland Drive in Sandy.
It is a pretty cool place and has lots of bamboo and organic cotton (yummy) yarns plus a huge wall of felting wools.

I know SLC seems to have had a bloom of yarn stores, but this one really is cool. They also feature art on consignment from local artists (maybe you could be next) and free tea, coffee, or diet coke (whatever your ailment may be). But it is totally cozy in there and next door to two fabulous vintage consignment stores (the pink door and sister's home).

Anyway, I just thought you yarnies would like to know.
4  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / The Gift that keeps on giving on: December 16, 2007 03:17:07 PM
This year I've been making a lot of "Gift Embellishment Kits". These are two that I did for swaps on Craftster and they have been well received. I started making these and giving them as gifts about 3 weeks ago. I've even received a gift from a friend using something I gave her to embellish gifts with.

These gifts are really simple. You can just smash as much ribbon, buttons, gift tags, buttons, twigs, berries, rafia, confetti or glitter that you can and decorate the outside of a can. I've used a baby formula can (I added a lot of bows) and a Pringles can (and stuffed it with candy canes). Then give it a catchy title.

This one is a chipboard can I found at Roberts.

This one is an old candy can.

Anyway, I hope it is an idea some of you can use!
5  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Cameras need to be cozy.... on: October 03, 2007 07:23:02 AM
I made a new camera bag because I lost my old one.

It is made with pinkish linen, a quilted lining (for protection), vintage buttons and rickrack, and a crochet doilie.

6  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Nothing Fancy... Just new pillows on: September 20, 2007 03:13:08 PM

I've been needing to recover some pillows on my couch for quite sometime, and when I found this Joel Dewberry fabric I became totally motivated. I made the green pillows some time ago, and traded the vintage ones for some crafted goods. I needed to tie this orange into my purple couch, so I figured this solution worked the best.  Can purple be neutral? Anyway, as the title says, nothing fancy, but sure beats what was replaced!
7  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Craft in America on PBS on: April 21, 2007 09:56:44 AM
ON PBS, MAY 30th

I don't know where I came across this, but there is a three part series about the tradition and how it is continuing on PBS May 30, 2007. I read a little about it on their website and also watched a preview.

Anyway, I'm going to watch it and thought you kids would be interested too!
8  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Granny's old dress is Nikki's new bag! on: January 11, 2007 09:10:59 AM
My pal Nikki snatched this out fit from her grandmother's closet while they were cleaning the home out after her death. Nikki loved this outfit of her grandmother the most and wanted to cherish it.

Voile! Here it is all. 100% polyester (ew) and it even smelled a bit like grandma.

Nikki decided she didn't want the outfit, but wanted something out of the outfit, so I volunteered to turn it in to a bag or a purse or pillows or something. Nikki voted for a purse. I used the skirt of the outer shell and the blouse for the liner.

I hate sewing stretchy fabric. My serger is sick (my preference for sewing stretchy) and my machine wasn't digging the thick interfacing I was using to stiffen the bag up. Oh well. It turned out just fine.

I added a fabric yoyo with some of the buttons from the blouse as an embellishment.

Anyway, I sprayed it with some of my Victoria Secret "Pink" parfume and returned it to her. Nikki was pleased.

The End!  Wink
9  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Woven Ribbon Mirrors on: December 01, 2006 07:59:33 AM
I made these mirrors for a holiday boutique that is going to be on Saturday.

I just used 5/8" Ofray satin ribbon and those cheapy Ikea $2 unfinished wood mirrors. I used duct tape to secure everything on the back and then used a glue gun to cover the back with felt. I think they look pretty.

10  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Bags for My Holiday Boutique on: November 22, 2006 08:11:06 AM
I want to share these because I am relieved that I am all done with them. These bags were made from an altered Simplicity pattern. I used corduroy for all of the outer parts and great quilting fabrics for the linings. They turned out great and I am excited to sell them at my boutique. You can read more about it in my blog (in signature). Enjoy!
