1  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / T-shirt scraps? on: October 26, 2011 07:00:38 PM
The search feature isn't working, so sorry if this has been asked already  Wink

I made a bunch of t-shirt necklaces recently and now have a few dozen "half t-shirts", basically from the sleeve seam up, left over.  Any ideas for what to do with them?  I really don't have space to store them until I have time to make anything, so maybe someone knows of a charitable cause that could use them?  We have a locale creative reuse place, but they won't accept ex-clothes.

2  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Discussion and Questions / question about contact paper stencil on dresser on: November 14, 2010 02:01:24 PM
Ok, so I have a light colored wooden dresser that I want to stencil an intricate design on with contact paper.  The negative space will remain the wood color, so I won't be able to touch up any bleeding paint under the stencil.  Is there a clear primer or something that I can paint over the contact paper first to keep paint from bleeding?
3  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Discussion and Questions / how to refinish velvet shadow box? on: June 19, 2010 06:38:49 PM
So I found this awesome framed shadow box thing with an ornate frame at the flea market and I want to paint it.  Problem is that the the inside of the shadow box is a black velvety type material - kind of like a jewelry box.  It's not in good shape, so I want to paint that part too (it doesn't look like it'll come off).
Any suggestions for what kind of paint to use for the velvet?  Or is there something else I can cover it with (maybe some kind of plaster?) and paint over that?

4  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / dolphin!! on: August 17, 2008 03:20:22 PM
Ok, so dolphins are one of my absolute favorite animals, but I hesitated to design a crocheted version until I got some practice and felt like I could do them justice.  The result is a chubby, happy little guy that I hope captures dolphins' playful nature...

Thanks for looking!
5  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / Crochet Conch Snail! on: July 23, 2008 05:56:05 PM
After working with a marine education program that had conch snails in its touch tank, they became one of my favorite sea creatures. They have such cute personalities, which I hope I've captured in my crocheted version.

One little milk conch was especially inspiring.  We nicknamed him Shawn and when we took him out of the water he'd stretch out of his shell and actually seemed to enjoyed being touched and having his "belly" rubbed.  One day we figured out that he would eat/slurp seaweed out of our hands - too cute!  So I couldn't resist crocheting a bit of seaweed for yarn Shawn to munch on  Grin.

6  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / like I need more dragons in my collection... on: April 02, 2008 10:18:59 AM
...but I couldn't resist!

These guys have been in progress (in my head and in a million pieces all over my sewing table) for a while now, but they've finally come together -

I went with an Asian style dragon, mainly because you don't really see those much in crochet form.  I LOVED picking out the wild colors and novelty yarns.
They're both made mainly with Bernat Softee Chunky, but the red one is about 3 inches shorter because that particular ball of yarn was thinner for some reason.  She's dainty  Grin
I think I'd like to eventually make one to represent each Chinese element (wood, fire, earth, metal, water), but I have too many other projects in the works and need to take a break from dragons for now  Wink.

Thanks for looking!

7  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Have you seen this OWL? on: February 12, 2008 10:45:29 AM
I had this owl crochet pattern bookmarked on Etsy, but apparently the listing/shop has been removed and now I don't know where to find/buy it  Undecided
Maybe someone can help... it was a flat owl that you'd use as an applique or maybe an ornament.  The body of the owl was done in some sort of open stitch and the colors used in the example were very rich - turquoise, magenta maybe - not "real" owl colors.  I think it was listed for about $5.
If you were the seller, or know where I might be able to find the pattern for this little guy, please let me know.

8  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / UMAgurumi (Unusual Marine Animals) - pic heavy! on: January 29, 2008 09:48:56 AM
So this is what I've been working on while looking for a real job  Tongue.  I have some more in the works, but they'll be a surprise!

9  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / looking for yarn - help please! on: September 21, 2007 11:10:34 AM
Hello!  I'm looking for yarn for an amigurumi project.  I need a suitable acryllic or cotton that's a twist of grey and brown/taupe (no white!).  I'd prefer it to be a twist rather than a striping or varigated yarn, but either could work.  I've looked everywhere, but no luck so far.
Has anyway seen a yarn like this?
