1  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Baby Showers And Gifts For New Babies / Baby Shower! Some inspiration please! on: May 07, 2006 06:57:21 AM
My friend has booked a room in canterbury catherdral for her babyshower..so as you can imagine it will be a real 'lahdidah' affair and I want to make her truly great gifts..unlike the bunch of 'baby dior', 'baby chanel' etc others will be bringing.

So far I have fully ripped off this idea and made cotton gloves with embroidery...

I've also printed a red babygro with 'love milk' in the coca cola logo style..

I also want to make a nappy cake , but don't want anything twee..so some inspiration for a funky one would be fab!

2  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Vintage themed international swap?! on: March 30, 2006 07:06:05 AM
Okay..been looking at all the swap galleries for 'hands across the water', 'my country doesn't have that' etc
and feeling very jealous.
I've just been out shopping and seen so many amazing things I could include in a similar swap.

But to make it more intersting, how about vintage themed items from your country of residence..

I live in London and have so many ideas..old fashioned english sweets...'afternoon tea party' clothes....old london bus print fabric...victoriana..swinging 60's sewing patterns (yes it started in the u.k! lol)  ooh too many ideas..
But i'd feel very sad collecting and making all this without somone to send it to!

I'd love to trade  for some good old americana and other loveliness.

So please register interest! I'm almost certain I couldn't organise..as i've never done a swap before.
3  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Craftster Itself / Subscriptions..and general rant on: March 22, 2006 07:33:17 AM
Hi..i'm pretty new to the awesome beast that is crafster..but get very annoyed that 90% of the time i get error messages, or the site just won't load.

Could the site admin. maybe set up an optional contributions method..i personally would be happy to pay 60 or so per year to the site, so that they can get a better host and larger bandwith etc..maybe even more admin. staff?

I stress the word optional as of course it would be unfair to insist, but i bet loads of people would go for it.
4  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Completed Projects / Broken desk becomes a work of art on: February 14, 2006 05:03:55 AM
We dropped our wooden office desk as we were moving it downstairs and totally bust up the legs, so we salvaged the top of it, and my boyfriend painted this..

it looks way better in real life, as we left the wood plain and just varnished the whole thing, so theres a really nice contrast between the natural wood and the bold shiny acrylic paint.

it's the pride of our lving room!

5  HOME SWEET HOME / Exterior Decorating / Yard Art / Gardening: Discussion and Questions / totally hot idea for paving slabs on: February 14, 2006 04:10:11 AM
My friend has just completed her masters in sculpture and had a surplus of clear casting resin that she invited me to play with.

I decided to make something to jazz up her plain patch of lawn.

I went to the local pet store and bought some huge bags of that gravel you put in fish tanks - except this was super lovely pink glittery gravel!

Then dug out an old cake tin, the sort where the bottom pops up and out.

I lined it with some thin plastic sheeting, poured in the gravel and then poured on a layer of the resin, making sure the gravel 'poked' up a bit to make a tread (resin is very slippery)

once dry I popped out a beautiful circular slab, the fact that the resin is clear made the gravel look amazing.

this x 8 and we dug out holes and laid a fab hot pink path up the lawn,

I'll post pics after I see her this weekend.

6  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Completed Projects / painting and mobile for our baby - now with proper pics. on: February 13, 2006 08:41:09 AM
This is what my boyfriend and i did to go above our baby's crib.

the pic doesn't show it off too well, but you get the idea!

we are cultivating his tastes early! teehee

the painting was done with acrylic paints, and the mobile (the coloured circles) made with coloured card and a very precise pair of scissors.

the little guy can stare at them for hours - so cute.
