If anyone wants instructions just pm me your email. I found a pdf on how to do it.

that pdf is ok...not a bad place to start...but missing so much, its not as simple as it seems from that article.

I cant give specifics (sorry, I got help from some people who wouldnt like me to repeat it)...BUT. its nothing too confusing. It involves some drilling and a whole lot of hammering.

nah, I read into it...Its illegal to deface money "with the intent to fraud". so like trying to deface a $1 bill into a $10 bill would be illegal. as long as I dont try to pass of the ring as a valid silver dollar I'm good.

its quite common in history for people to melt down coins once the value of the metal becomes higher than the value of the coin...thats why you rarely see pre 1965 quarters anymore, theyre made of silver...a 1964 quarter has $3 of silver in it.

congress is considering pass a law to make it illegal to melt coins...theyre worried because the copper content in pre 1982 pennies is now valued at $.02...some people have started melting those pennies down to sell for twice what they are worth 'face value'.

sorry. I know a lot about coins.

well, heres my first attempt at a coin ring...its a little different than the normal spoon method of flattening out the reeds...it is a little wavy due to my inability to hammer evenly, but still has an interesting look to it...

next one will be better!

let me know what you think!

edit: I almost forgot...I was inspired to figure out how to make these by the work of http://www.spiritualflyer.com/services.html. He makes AMAZING rings...and theyre actually pretty cheap. ($35-$45)
