These are simply beautiful  Shocked
12  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / "Alternativity" on: December 06, 2010 02:38:46 AM
Following on from my earlier topic about using ply wood offcuts for ornaments, this is one of our versions of the christmas nativity scene ala "Southpark" style. LOL.  Realising the implications of infringing copyright etc, I'm going to make enough subtle changes to "Kenny" in the future so we don't risk upsetting anyone.

This was the first draft.

These are a few of the characters we've painted so far.

13  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Upcycled ply wood offcuts become ornaments on: December 06, 2010 02:33:30 AM

So my ongoing challenge (at work) is to find or create projects that cost little or nothing, which are simple enough for a range of physical abilities.

I crafted the shapes from 8mm ply wood scraps from our woodwork room using the bandsaw.  Our guys were then able to help with the sanding and painting etc afterwards.
14  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Christmas goodies - Wall hangings on: December 06, 2010 02:24:23 AM

This Wall hanging is from scrap pieces of ply wood (8mm) painted with acrylics, vinyl heat fix lettering and embellishments, varnished and ribbon thumbtacked (heavily) on the back.
15  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Beads: Completed Projects / Re: Another knitted beaded cuff, blue for a friend on: November 11, 2010 04:04:32 AM
I have wanted to try one for some time....are these comfortable to wear? For some reason, I keep thinking that they will be scratchy..It looks great Smiley

Using enough of the larger beads helps to keep the wire off the skin, however you could perhaps "cuff" it by using a felt backing base for more comfort?
16  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Re: ooh, Sparkly colors! Beaded butterflies on: November 11, 2010 04:01:07 AM
Lovely lovely!

We've been working on butterflies a whole lot for the butterfly project in the holocaust exhibition in 2012. (There is a thread here in the crafting for good causes section somewhere).

I have sourced lots of lovely butterflies online to colour in and have now found a way to transfer them neatly onto fabric using a "china marking pencil" (this is much like a kohl eye pencil) to trace around the outines onto baking parchment, then iron on reverse to transfer it.

Having just see what you've done with all the sparkles I now feel inspired to create something of my own Smiley thanks!
17  GLASS CRAFTS / Glass Crafts: Completed Projects / upcycled car windshield fused charger plate on: November 11, 2010 03:44:07 AM
My first attempt at glass fusion. Double layers of safety glass, red glass beads interspersed, red/orange frit powder and gold guilding powder for the rim. Measures about 11 inch diameter.

It was a very expensive "workshop" costing 50 for the day (including basic materials) so I don't think I will be returning any time soon to further my explorations of glass fusion Smiley
