1  Latex gloves and the quest for "the dress" in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by paint_pants on: July 18, 2006 11:51:15 PM
To make a long story short(er) I am an art student... or was... I just graduated. I was required to do a solo senior show in order to graduate. I am a mixed media sorta gal for the most part and have really strong roots in sculpture and fashion photography.... so I opted to move my mixed media into a fashion-esque direction and create a series of "Disposable Dresses" out of materials that are commonly thrown away. A lot of my stuff borders on political commentary ... but I am still learning to hone those skills. Anyhow, I entered slides of this piece into a show in Chicago and got in! But... one of my fellow crafter friends has been urging me to post here just for kicks so here... without further delay.... is "Disposable Dress IV" .  It is a wearable piece made of a couple hundred latex gloves both machine and hand sewn, free formed/patterned, and detailed with brass grommets and satin ribbon. *phew*
so... yeah... enjoy or whatev...

this is the front

this is the back

this is the back detail

the first two photos are "catalogue" style that were matted and framed at my senior show as the piece was at another gallery when my personal exhibition opened  Smiley /  Cry

Much love
