thanks for the heads-up!
632  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Gay 16th birthday - HELP! on: July 27, 2005 09:16:23 AM
A (male) friend of mine has invited me to his 16th.  I don't really know him that well - just that he's gay (and likes the smell of board markers, but I have rejected that as a gift idea).

Besides the obvious (condoms, which I may well be to embarrassed to buy), can anyone think of something I could make for the poor boy?

also: have you thought of sending this pattern to SnB for the new crochety book?

(just in case you hadn't seen it!)

That is my incentive to learn to crochet.  Right there. ^_^

My biology teacher would LOVE these!  That's it, I'm working out how to crochet then buying the pattern ($3 is a good price, by the way, and Paypal would be pretty easy to set up.  PM me if you want a hand, I think this counts as a good cause) and then I'm making lots and lots and donating them to my school.

(I think I'm going to start stalking and fangirling you now)
635  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / Re: "Real Site" versus a "Free Site" like Livejournal?? on: July 24, 2005 09:01:37 AM
Oh, and I forgot to mention, I'd be happy to make a layout for you ^_^  You really can do a lot with livejournal.  (Just look at mine for an example, http://www.livejournal.com/~sackvillespawn/)

OMG! I LOVE the Duct Tape Car!  That's the most fantastic thing I've ever seen, I swear!

I like the colour scheme (pink and green go surprisingly well together), and your selling system is very obvious and easy to work out.

All together, well done you ^_^  I'd certainly buy things if I, y'know, had any money whatsoever!

(if you're going for a free site, I'd recommend using www.atspace.com since they don't have ads)

Well, the livejournal site can look professional - you could try to make it look a bit less... "livejournally" and more customized, if you see what I mean?  Since LJ offers practically limitless customization and why pay for something if you can get it for free?

Also, at www.dot.tk you can get free domain forwarding, so you could have someone go to, say, www.knitting_panda.tk and they'd get taken straight to your livejournal so they'd never know.

And lots of people have very successful LJ businesses, so don't fret ^_^
638  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / Business website contractors...? on: July 22, 2005 01:20:37 PM
So, all of you with selling websites:

How many of you made them yourself using a pre-built program (like Zencart or Paypal carts) or using your own programming, and how many of you hired someone to do it for you?  If so, how much did it cost and was it worth it?  If not, do you think that a contractor could have done a better job?  Or have any of you been paid to make selling websites for people?

How about Etsy?  Has anyone had any problems with it?

(gee, that's a lot of questions all at once)
639  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / Re: An honest question about race on: July 20, 2005 01:10:54 PM
The only reason I could think of that would make race a problem would be whether the colour of the garment would go with the buyer's skin-colour (which goes for stuff modeled by people of all colours, though, right?), so I generally like it best when people have pictures of the garment on its own against a plain background as well as worn, so you can see the colour and the form.
640  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Get Product and Website Opinions / Re: Seeking Tips - Search Engines on: July 20, 2005 01:05:15 PM
I know very little about search engines &c., but Yahoo and Bravenet.com both have places that you can submit your site to the engines.

Your website has a lovely design, by the way, and your HOW DO I DO THAT? section covers everything succinctly.

Well done you  Cheesy
