1  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / so . red is sexy right? then this shirt is on fire! on: May 08, 2006 10:32:50 AM
i found this thin red wool in the attic that was just screaming "RED HALTER" so i gave in . and an hour later . voila!

of course the belt isn't part of the shirt but for some reason i just love it with it .

i didn't mean to make the back so low . but alas, as this is only my fifth sewing project, i'm still learning . so because the back is so low i can't wear a bra . but i'm small boobed so that isn't really a problem, i've just got to learn to be comfortable without one. i've still got a few threads to snip too .

here it is up close . the only thing that bugs me is it's kinda curvy on one side, but that's okay and i made the seam under the boobs too high . oh well, sew and learn i guess!

thanks for looking!
2  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / ah yes so it's a circle skirt .. third attempt at sewing on: April 25, 2006 12:15:12 PM
okay, so i took one of my fellow craftster's advice and hit the goodwill, for five minutes though, and came out with a 50 cent sheet that my mom said had to be from the 1940s or before .. i love it though because it's soft .. so here it is .. and i know it's not perfect but it's cool and comfortable for the memphis heat and i'll wear it proudly this summer ..

^^^ back

and every circle skirt must have an action shot, right?

anyways thanks for looking!
3  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / yellow stripes and some white-ness .. second attempt at sewing on: April 21, 2006 10:11:20 AM
so i got this lovely sewing machine for my 14th birthday back in october and have used it .. that's right once .. so after hours of my mother's nagging on me .. "we spent all that money for nothing blah blah blah" i decided to pull it out and try my hand at it again .. i made a pretty cool skirt the first time and i still wear it a good bit but i just don't have very much time etc etc .. so, seeing as my fabric supply is pretty limited i headed to the goodwill bag my mother was compiling .. inside were two shirts, one yellow stripes and one plain white cotton-spandex,  of her's she had apparently bought but never worn seeing as the tags were still on them. i thought "a shame to let these go to waste!" so i put this together and i'll admit it's not brilliant or anything but i'm pleased and i'll even wear it .. i just resized and imagined and voila! here it is ..

close-up of the neckline which wasn't going to be a v-neck thingy but haha it kinda turned out that way

sleeve .. sorry the photo-quality isn't so great

side and bow .. which you can't see all that well but it's there .. ew excuse the fatness

and back .. i couldn't really get a good shot of it so i just hung it up on the wall and took a picture ..

thanks for looking .. comments would be lovely
4  CLOTHING / Designer Clothing Homage / haha talbots((yes i know)) dress help on: April 18, 2006 03:27:28 PM
well .. i have a very important violin graduation recital coming up in about a month and i need to look nice .. well as i was browsing some of my mother's catalogs i came across one from talbots .. needless to say i've never stepped foot inside a talbots store because it generally makes me think of 40+ year old women who are in desperate need of fashion help .. ((no offense to any here who make a habit of shopping there)) so all this to say i was flipping pages and this totally adorable dress caught my attention .. it is also totally expensive .. $180 is not something i or my mother is about to spend on a dress sooo i need help making it .. anyone care to help out? thanks! here's the one picture i have of the dress .

i would make it a bit more .. fitted .. but the general idea of it is very nice i think

any advice?

5  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / why yes...my skirt was made out of roman shades material...but it is quite sexy on: November 16, 2005 08:00:10 PM
hi loves!
well the most uncrafty person in the universe has managed to accomplish making a skirt...why YES a skirt...out of **gasp** roman shades material that is 20 years old...and it was made with no pattern...so don't kill it off too quickly just because i have absoloutley no talent at all...lol...please leave comments and sorry for the mirror shots...you'll live...
the front minus the cool belt i got for 25 dollars at american eagle...ugh...i spent WAY too much
the side...excuse the un-ironedness of it...
and kind of the back...
a closeup of the cool roman shades material...yess i love it...totally retro...

yesss i had to go all out dressing up with my new boots and cool expensive spent-way-too-much-on-this-for-what-it-is shirt...

encouragement...discouragement?? happy to hear it
6  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Party Planning / New York Glitzy Holiday PartaY! on: October 19, 2005 11:35:14 AM
hi lovelies! well, my best friend and i are planning on having a holiday party around the middle of december this year..now i know it's only october but i figured why not go ahead and start planning?? so here's what i've got so far:

we're renting out a room that has a stage and wooden floors and is nice and spacious and will be perfect
my older brother is dj-ing because he has this sound system thingy and so much music it's insane
we're going to have a fake "bar" ((i'm 14)) and such with menus and fake maritinis and cocktails etc. my friend's dad is "bartending"...he's loving it lol
it's going to be like semi-formal ya know...little black dresses...ties for guys...etc...

so what i need are food ideas etc...just anything that pops to your head for a glitzy new york night life kind of party...anything goes okay? just let me know what you're thinking! any ideas are greatly appreciated! thanks ya'll!!
7  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / stupid stupid question...but i must ask on: October 13, 2005 08:45:25 PM
okay...all of you uberly crafty people out there are going to say i'm stupid...but i am honestly stumped...

i followed aprilcocaine's circle skirt pattern to a T and every time i finish cutting it out ((even after hemming)) the bottom is a million differnt lengths...and for me that's not cool...i'm not into the 5 minute skirt...or the pixie skirt...and circle skirts are supposed to be incredibly easy...which makes me incredibly stupid...lol...so any help anybody could give me would be amazingly appreciated!! thanks so much!!
